100 Days of Summer: Get to Know No. 92 Cameron Murray
We are 92 days away from the start of college football (ed. note: or we were yesterday when the site crashed so we’re posting this a day late). That seems like an eternity, I know. But let’s pass the time by getting familiar with a redshirt freshman whose name you should definitely learn before August.
How he got to OSU
For being ranked the 14th-ranked prospect out of the state of Arkansas, Murray went a bit under the radar. But Joe Bob Clements saw something he liked and offered the 6-foot-2, 280-pound defensive tackle. He also held offers from Arizona, Kansas, Louisiana Tech and others.
What he’s done in Stillwater
Not much, so far. Murray spent last year redshirting and competing on the scout team. He does have a year under the tutelage of Rob Glass and Co. and has used it to put on 10 pounds. He should be ready to contribute this fall.
Role in 2017
The Cowboys may be three-deep in legitimate contributors at defensive tackle. And the implementation of a part-time three-down front limits the available reps for interior linemen. But a college football season is long, especially in the Big 12 — where defensive linemen come to learn what it would have been like to run track in high school. And guys get dinged up. Expect Murray to contribute on special teams and to push for a spot in the rotation up front on defense this fall behind Darrion Daniels, DeQuinton Osborne and Trey Carter.
Noteworthy stats and highlights
Recorded two solo tackles during the spring game. Had 51 tackles and 10 tackles for loss as a senior at Bryant High School (Bryant, Arkansas).
