On Tuesday we looked at OSU’s litany of catchers and its strong infield, so today we’re going to look at how the outfield looks as we head into the 2013 season.

Here’s the list of outfielders on OSU’s current roster.

NameYearHometownTeam last yearAvg/HR/RBI
Blake BromFreshmanWichita Falls, TXHigh school.369
Gage GreenSophomoreWichita Falls, TXOSU.237/1/6
Corey HasselFreshmanStillwater, OKHigh school.341/7/33

Trey WhaleySeniorLubbock, TXOSU.299/1/19
Jarrett HigginsSeniorHouston, TXOSU.252/0/15
Aaron CornellJuniorRoff, OKOSU.088/0/2

There us, uh, zero power in the outfield. OSU returns a grand total of two home runs from last year’s group of outfielders. This might be all right though given that the group stole a combined 29 bases, but the power is going to have to come from somewhere.

The rotation should be Higgins in CF, Saxon in LF, and Fish in RF but Manute Bol-like frosh, Blake Brom (he’s 6’11, 187!!!) could push for time as well as some platooning from the other guys.

There’s definitely experience here but unless we have the ’96 Braves pitching staff, OSU’s infield is going to have to carry it on offense because I really don’t see it happening from these guys.

Here’s a great video of a Saxon game-winning hit from summer ball last July.

Also, Higgins made this video of himself and it’s kinda hilarious/incredible…

  1. So GMH is all about the ah-ahh-ahah-ahhhh

  2. Did you seriously think Brom is 6’11″, 187? I think that is physically impossible. He’s 6’1″…
