On Tuesday we looked at OSU’s litany of catchers and its strong infield, so today we’re going to look at how the outfield looks as we head into the 2013 season.
Here’s the list of outfielders on OSU’s current roster.
Name Year Hometown Team last year Avg/HR/RBI
Blake Brom Freshman Wichita Falls, TX High school .369
Gage Green Sophomore Wichita Falls, TX OSU .237/1/6
Corey Hassel Freshman Stillwater, OK High school .341/7/33
Saulyer Saxon Junior Shawnee, OK OSU .299/0/10
Trey Whaley Senior Lubbock, TX OSU .299/1/19
Jarrett Higgins Senior Houston, TX OSU .252/0/15
Aaron Cornell Junior Roff, OK OSU .088/0/2
There us, uh, zero power in the outfield. OSU returns a grand total of two home runs from last year’s group of outfielders. This might be all right though given that the group stole a combined 29 bases, but the power is going to have to come from somewhere.
The rotation should be Higgins in CF, Saxon in LF, and Fish in RF but Manute Bol-like frosh, Blake Brom (he’s 6’11, 187!!!) could push for time as well as some platooning from the other guys.
There’s definitely experience here but unless we have the ’96 Braves pitching staff, OSU’s infield is going to have to carry it on offense because I really don’t see it happening from these guys.
Here’s a great video of a Saxon game-winning hit from summer ball last July.
Also, Higgins made this video of himself and it’s kinda hilarious/incredible…

So GMH is all about the ah-ahh-ahah-ahhhh
I feel like he made that on his iPhone lol
Did you seriously think Brom is 6’11″, 187? I think that is physically impossible. He’s 6’1″…
Not to mention his strike zone being a mile high if that is true. Yikes!
