Breaking Down the Oklahoma State Schedule (Part 3)

A reminder: This is not meant to be a deep dive into each team (that will come later) — simply a general overview of what we can reasonably expect going into 2016.

Game 7: at Kansas

Record: 7-0

Game 8: West Virginia

West Virginia on the road is about the least amount of fun you can have outside of going to Norman in this conference. West Virginia at home on the other hand? Might be the most fun. You know Dana’s hair will ride hard, and Gundy’s could match it wisp for wisp at that point. Who knows. WVU strangely had a great defense last year and struggled on offense. I’m still of the belief that Dana was born to be the OC for Cal or Washington or somebody insane playing in the middle of the night, and his reign in Morgantown might be coming to a close which means he’ll be playing with little to nothing to lose (which is terrifying). Still, OSU is just flat-out better and will win at home.

Record: 8-0

Game 9: at Kansas State

I think OSU loses two conference games this season. One tough one and one tricky one. This is the tricky one. Oklahoma State is better than Kansas State. Straight up. You can’t look at those two teams from an angle in which KSU is better unless it’s like “who has more 1-star white guys who played QB at high schools with between 50-125 students?” That’s a scenario that would favor KSU. But being 8-0 in November in Manhattan is never a fun undertaking.

The thing about Kansas State is that it’s not like Texas or TCU or anything like that. You can roll with those teams, get in a groove and hope to beat them in a shootout. Bill Snyder always does tricky old man stuff that makes you curse your living room furniture and wish the CFP had expanded to eight teams over the summer. Alas.

Record: 8-1

Summary

This is not a difficult stretch, but it is a tightrope for OSU to walk. They have always struggled in Lawrence (for reasons that defy the principals of physics and logic), you know Dana will go out blazing and like we looked at, KSU is KSU. I’m expecting one loss here and one in the final trio of games before another Sugar Bowl appearance in the postseason.
