Could OSU be eyeing Alabama WR Transfer?

Published

on

Former blue-chip prospect and four-star standout Chris Black has announced he will transfer from the Crimson Tide program. Black redshirted his freshman year after suffering a shoulder injury and, after redshirting, spent two seasons as a rotational type player behind Amari Cooper, Christion Jones, and other talented Alabama receivers.

Due to the emergence of freshman phenom Calvin Ridley and Adarius Stewart this year, he was never able to translate his potential into meaningful production on the field. He underwent ankle surgery in November and effectively ended his career at Alabama.

“Have officially been granted by full release from U of A. Want to thank all the coaches, fellow teammates and fans who believed in me,” he said. The interesting news for Black is that athletes typically are required to sit out and lose a year of eligibility with a transfer. But, if Black is able to complete his degree before the 2016 season, he will be eligible to play immediately via the graduate transfer file – something the Cowboys are very familiar with.

Pure speculation at this point, but Oklahoma State could be a nice landing spot for the transfer Black. Top receivers David Glidden and Brandon Sheperd have exhausted their eligibility, leaving Marcell Ateman, James Washington, Chris Lacy, Jhajuan Seales, and Jalen McCleskey as returning players to make an impact. With Black’s stature (6-foot, 192), he could potentially figure to be an impactful cog as a plug and play difference maker as a return man or in the receiving group.

Here’s a look at who he has recently followed on twitter… Perhaps the interest could be mutual.
