A tremendous Cowgirl tennis season came to an end Sunday afternoon in Athens, Georgia as the No.9 Cowgirls (25-6) fell to the No. 1 Florida Gators 4-1. Coming off a stellar hard-fought win in the Sweet 16 against the No. 8 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the ladies couldn’t rekindle that same magic against the No. 1 team in the land. Despite the loss, Coach Chris Young was proud and reflective of the work of his talented group of Cowgirls.

“Our girls gave it all they had this entire season, and competed like champions,” said Young. “Today, even not playing well, I thought we still competed hard and dug deep. I’m proud of those girls, and proud of our seniors who have put us on a different level as a program over the last three years. I’m proud of everything that they have accomplished.”

Coach Young is certainly right. His senior class consisting of Katarina Adamovic, Carla Turi Mari, and Viktoriya Lushkova have combined for 258 singles wins, 277 doubles wins, four All-America honors, 13 All-Big 12 accolades, two straight Big 12 Championships, and a NCAA Championship runner-up.

Katarina Adamovic, whom many consider the heart and soul of the Cowgirl Tennis team, issued a heartfelt message to the OSU faithful after the loss. There are several terrific articles published about her passion for her school and journey from Serbia to donning the orange and black.

Florida moves on to face No. 4 seed Vanderbilt in the Final Four. Ohio State and Stanford will play on the other side of the bracket.

Although the team season is over, all three Cowgirl seniors will all qualify to play in the NCAA individual championships beginning this Thursday. These Cowgirl seniors have elevated the tennis program to a level not seen in the OSU athletic department’s history.
