Only one more Thursday after today without…gasp…college football.
Charges against Littlehead dropped. I owe somebody an apology. (Tulsa World)
Joe Randle – preseason Heisman darkhorse? (CBS Sports)
This was excellent. Also, I have some blogging competition. Slater is legit. (NewsOK)
None of the first three games on TV? (Tulsa World)
This link would indicate otherwise…(via Orange Power)
I think that’s “TWO Union stars ready to shine.” (Tulsa World)
Gina thinks Tracy Moore will lead OSU in receiving. (NewsOK)
Wow. Ubben has OSU at #16…that’s about as high as I’ve seen us. (ESPN)
Good Q&A with Coleman Scott. (okstate.com)
What a joke. (NewsOK)
No OSU WR in the top 10 for the Big 12. I would wager a lot of cash we end up with one after the season, I just don’t know which one. (ESPN)
Wish this was on TV tonight. (SB Nation)
Talor Gooch moves on to the round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur. (USGA)
Athlon lists Gilbert, Lunt, and Moore as breakout stars. (Athlon)
I roll on Robert Allen a lot but he really does have some good insight to practice and the players. Wish more outlets with access did this. (Scout)
Le’Bryan Nash, banana boats, gosh I need some games to start. (okstate.com)
I know it was kind of a question in OKC Dave’s survey, but who do you guys think does a better job with OSU coverage: Tulsa World or Oklahoman? Discuss in the comments section please…

NewsOK definitely does a better job. And Anthony Slater is putting them even more over the top
NewsOK, now that we have Gina Mizell. She actually comes up with good articles.
OState Hater Jenny Carlson was a flusher. Completely biased coverage between the Sooner’s and OState.
I don’t even click on TW links any more due to the page limit. TW is definitely not worth subscribing too (and I get that they need to make money).
I’ve always been under the impression you would lose your job at the Oklahoman for making favorable comments about the Cowboys…..
I’ve always liked newsok.com better, although I’ve never known precisely why. Tulsa world has the page view limits, or at least I think they still do.
Yeah, they do…it stinks but I read that their readership actually went UP after they implemented it…
I primarily read NewsOK because I have easy, free access to their material on the app. I don’t lean one way or the other when it comes to who I prefer.
Is their app pretty good?
Just started using it this week after the wife subscribed to the print edition. On the iPad it works just like a print paper but there is a drop down that lets you jump around rather than just page to page. I will miss Bill Haisten. He had the history down and great instincts for where the real story was. But I also enjoy the Oklahoman and have great respect for their crew without that much respect for the paper in general. Gina does a good job and Anthony will only add to that. Great to have them both available now.
@AKRicky
“Colt McCoy and the Cleveland Browns will head to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 of the 2012 NFL preseason.”
Colt McCoy?..what are they smoking…..
I read that too and laughed out loud! Colt will lead the Browns in clipboards held, that’s it.
Also, the mother-flippin BellDozer was a Heisman dark horse?!?
I ’bout lost my mind…
The DOK vs. Tulsa World thing is TBD, in my opinion. If you would have asked this last year, I would have said the TW, hands down… mainly because we had the best sports beat writer in the state (Bill Haisten) covering the OSU beat. I think Kelly Hines is off to a pretty good start, but I want to see how she does during the season.
I’m a fan of Gina Mizell. Good insight, good (and getting better) storytelling. And I really like that she doesn’t have the same baggage we have as fans. She reports on the program as it is, not as it was 10, 15, or 20 years ago.
I read NewsOK more just because it’s free. I think Tulsa is more in tune with the OSU program though, their articles seem to have more depth and insight. I would say its about a 10:1 ratio for me. Also, words cannot express the joy that went coursing through my body as I read that first sentence… Are we really that close now?!!!! Ahhhh!!! Better get the tailgaiting plans together. We do it BIG. Couches, TVs, smoker, grill, custom OKstate everything. I am happiest when at BPS. It’s true
I won’t say who “won” between the two papers until the results come out, but they were very rated very close to each other in the survey.
The Browns vs Packers replay will be on the NFL Network at 11:00 PM central time tonight!
DirectTV had the Detroit replay blacked out last week for the Tulsa area….
NewsOK for sure – As a whole the Tulsa World covers all sports a little better but the Oklahoman pays more attention to OSU/OU. With the proximity to Univ of Tulsa they have to give some more attention there. I also prefer the writers for the Oklahoman. Bringing in an outsider with Gina M led to some fresh looks I thought. I also think with the Thunder coming to the state it has helped the overall professionalism of the states writers and has also got them kissing a little less butt and asking/expecting the tough questions.
Browns vs Packers
“Colt McCoy and the Cleveland Browns will head to Lambeau Field…” Does the writer really not know that Weeden is the starter?
Will the Savannah State game be televised? Or is it too early to tell?
Doesn’t look like it but maybe…
Does anyone webcast OSU football video or audio live? I’m going to be stuck in China for the first couple of weeks of September and hate the idea of missing the first couple of games….
Okstate.com always has audio, and sometimes video, but you have to subscribe. I do it cuz I can’t stand not having the game available in some form.
ESPN3 will, if you have the right ISP, and they choose to show it (i.e. if ESPN has rights to game).
But not outside the US. I tried watching the Cowboys on ESPN3 from Spain. ESPN
When I got arrested in college the Oklahoman picked up the story, not the World. Advantage Oklahoman.
p.s. found not guilty
I read both equally. Grew up reading TW, and couldn’t wait for Sunday mornings, or any day following a bball game. Gina and Kelly are my favorites (for personal reasons), but always loved Bill Haisten. Anthony will raise the game at NewsOk.
DOK has come a long way since the stuff the bore the rant and it began with Chatmon. Gina has improved steadily and I think she will continue to raise the bar. The World offers some good content, but their coverage is limited. DOK is best for football and basketball and their wrestling coverage is horrible. The strength of the World is “minor” sports content and player profiles. The best coverage comes from the internet IMO.
That’s a pretty interesting concept. Somebody on Twitter mentioned that Orange Power was better than both. Obviously as a news source it isn’t, but as a crowdsourcing aggregator? I’ll listen to that….
How is the Tulsa World’s coverage limited? They have a beat writer, just like DOK. They run practice reports every day, just like DOK. They also alternate their feature stories between OSU and OU, just like DOK. Of course, they are also actually covering the third D-1 program in the state, unlike the DOK.
TW gets a bad rap because of the pageviews thing. People equate lack of reach with lack of coverage…
I start out the morning reading Pistols Firing, which I find has more DOK links…I follow Gina Mizell on Twitter (She’s great). I only read the TW if there is a link to it off PF.
Kyle, my situation may be different, since I live in Beijing. But on my Android, the “continued reading” page break is a real hassle and frequently starts over on your home page. Ditto the links. On my mobile, about half of them create a second webpage, which is great, since I can easily close them and go back to your homepage. But many open on your home page and again, I have to start over and reopen Pistols Firing. Thanks, Jeff
Jeff, I access it through a VPN tunnel back to a US based ISP when I’m in Hangzhou and it works fine….if you’re using a .cn ISP that might be part of the issue…..
Not completely sure I know what’s going on here…maybe send me an email and we can chat about it?
Kyle:
Two recommendations:
1) Get rid of the “continued reading” page break. It’s not like you are Marcel Proust or Leo Tolstoy! Computers and connections are so fast now, why do we need to click twice to see everything you have to say that day, or that segment?
2) On my PC, when I click on a link, it always generates a second webpage, keeping the original PF homepage. I finish looking at the linked content, close it and the PF homepage is still there. On my Android, about half of the time, the linked page replaces the PF homepage. So, when I finish, I have to go back, reopen PF and start over. Probably the only way this will get solved is if you create a mobile version of PF.
Finally, not a big deal, but last time I clicked on the button below to notify me of any replies to my post and no email was forthcoming…
再见,Jeff in 北京
PS: I forgot to recommend this for OKC Dave’s survey, but it would be fascinating to see a plot map of the world to see where all the OSU fans live…Is there some way to display a Google map of the world and let people “star” their locations? It would be a lot of fun!
Really everyone? I read more of dok but that doesnt mean they are better. They (the newspaper and the writers) are clearly in love with uo and generally have more uo articles than osu. TW does seem to have more “in depth” articles news ok linda spew out stuff, though I do like Gina for covering osu. And it seems that since tulsa is closer they seem to favor osu over uo
“kinda”
