Why Gundy Hasn’t Signed

Berry pointedly answered the question why Gundy is only signed through 2019.

“I’m more vulnerable if I don’t believe in what we’re doing,” Gundy said.

And Gundy says that’s why he hasn’t signed the contract. He’s trying to get resources for his program that he says are vital to sustain the standard that the Cowboys have set.

Gundy’s concerns: salaries for coaches and support personnel, plus recruiting budgets and resources.

“In comparison to the league, I need them to be in the middle of the pack,” Gundy said. “I think they’ve earned that with what we’ve accomplished in football. We need recruiting budgets to be in the top three or four in the league. Otherwise, it becomes difficult for me, to convince myself, to convince young people, that we can continue to do this or take the next step.”

Gundy said he estimates OSU ranks in the bottom half of the Big 12 in those areas. [NewsOK]

One of the prevailing theories for accepting the Boynton hire is we’re a football school – that’s where the money goes. 60,000 Cowboy fans are collectively unified saying “give him what he wants”. This isn’t a guy after one year asking for top tier money. Also, yesterday this happened… Can’t help the situation at all.

Dizzy Forte?

BleacherReport thinks the Pokes are sitting on the next Marshall Henderson on the bench.

But Thomas Dziagwa is one guy who could immediately help plug that gap. He only played 176 minutes – most of it during the nonconference portion of the season—but he averaged 12.0 three-point attempt per 40 minutes and connected on 43.4 percent of those attempts.

Dziagwa’s per-game scoring average is negatively skewed by a bunch of games in which he logged three minutes or fewer without taking a shot. On a per-40 minutes basis, though, he was Oklahoma State’s third-best scorer at 19.8 points. [BleacherReport]

If by everywhere Thomas Dziagwa is written they intended to say “Lindy Waters” I would have completely agreed. Could Dizzy be the sixth man? Absolutely. But his chances of filling Forte’s vacancy in the starting lineup are equal to the probability Brad Underwood and Mike Holder playing Karsten over the summer.

OSU and NCAA Notes

Pokes dropped game two in Lawrence on Friday night….NCAA Football is changing some rules (thoughts on the changes)….Doug the Dad is awesome….Pair of Sooner DBs are transferring out….OSU tennis killed it yesterday: men shutout Tulsa and women took their fifth straight Bedlam….Oklahoman’s five things to watch in the Spring Game

Spring Game today! Check the rosters, Hayden notes the linemen missing: three of five probable starters won’t be playing.

Texas Tech coaching legend passed this week, Mack Brown eulogized him well. I wish Mack had been hired at Baylor.

95 percent sure K-State’s new AD was in high school with Bill Snyder – solid hire though.

Built North Dakota State then did well as an associate at Iowa. Should adjust fine to big city living in Manhattan.

As a casual Star Wars fan, what happens if there’s only one more Jedi? Or is Jedi one of those words that the plural is the same as singular? (sheep, aircraft, etc.) Seems like you’d be killing the plan for Star Wars 10, 11, 12…. But still, looks like a good time .
