Moving and Shaking

Pretty strong comments here on the impact of the Cochran transfer.

I think it’s going to be Cal offensive tackle Cochran. Left tackle was really the only question mark this Oklahoma State offense had. The Cowboys are loaded everywhere else. Getting an experienced left tackle like Cochran to protect Rudolph’s blindside pretty much solidifies what could be the best offense in college football next season. [ESPN]

“Best offense in college football”.

Years from now we’ll wonder how we missed all the signs: a guy with a mullet, hunting rattlesnakes and snapping pics in a singlet. Telling newspapers what you want from your boss. Supreme confidence.

Saying you’re ahead of the 2011 offense in any capacity is hardly tapping the breaks on expectations. Let’s look forward to pics of the below coming out in the dog days of summer.

Defensive Update

There’s a couple sound layers on the defense but one in particular (you’ll never guess) where only time will tell.

Here’s what OSU coach Mike Gundy knew after Saturday’s exercise: “I don’t think there’s any question we’re going to be pretty good up front. We’re going to be two-deep across the board at our ends and tackles. And we’ve got linebackers. I feel good about where we’re at. We’ve just got to get some good corner play as we move on to the season.” [TulsaWorld]

The Adrian Baker transfer seems small compared to the mountainous Cochran but holding down the corners continues to be the major question mark on the unit. A.J. Green seems to be the guy rising to the top for pairing with Baker.

Calling Baton Rouge

KU has been grabbing headlines pulling football players out of Louisiana but the Cowboys have made a strong move recently into SEC country.

“We’ve had real success in East Texas,” Gundy said. “What we’ve found is, if you go on out a little further east into that northern, west Louisiana (region), and it’s really the same kind of people. They fit good in our culture here.”

OSU’s recruiting focus will continue be centralized on Oklahoma and Texas, with 69-of-97 players on the Cowboys’ roster hailing from those states. However, the need for Louisiana talent won’t fade anytime soon. [NewsOK]

With two offensive starters (McCleskey, Marcus Keyes) plus Wudtee and Tyron Johnson to go with a couple on the defensive two deep, Louisiana is becoming a hub. Former grad assistant Eric Henderson made some initial headway for the Pokes but it’s been followed up impressively.

OSU and NCAA Notes

West Virginia is one of five teams expected to take a step back this fall….USC grad transfer looks to be the QB when the Pokes go to Pitt….Cornelius the leader in wide open QB2 race leaving spring….Mailbag often discussing OSU’s Big 12 title shot….Pokes dropped the rubberband game on Saturday in Lawrence….Cowboy Golf won the Maxwell at Oak Tree over the weekend

I guess you’ve gotta start somewhere.

Absolutely love this concept. Understanding the scale of how fast college players are is great plus you get scenes like this occasionally.

These never get old. Nebraska had 78k at their spring game!
