Loves to Play the Game
Oddly one of Gundy’s highest draft picks doesn’t embody one of his most used phrases.
“I watched [cornerback] Justin Gilbert play in the Big 12 for three years,” said Miller. “He’s this 6-foot-tall, 200-pound corner that ran a 4.37, his three cone was sub-seven seconds, he was strong, and, athletically, he was everything you want.
“But Joe Thomas said it on Twitter. This is what happens when you don’t love football. It doesn’t matter how athletic you are, if you don’t love football, you’re not going to succeed.” [The Ringer]
Other than a dropped interception in Bedlam, Justin Gilbert is most fondly remembered for his stellar uniforms, Mack Brown-hair on fire gifs and stellar play on the field. But it’s wild that his flaming out in the NFL was due to one of the primary tenets of Oklahoma State football recruiting: loving football.
This is easily one of my favorite clips of Cowboy football/upset coaches/life in general.
Unthinkable Hires
Robert Allen ponders an “unthinkable” fill in for the last open assistant spot.
My unthinkable comes in new Oklahoma State basketball head coach Mike Boynton considering hiring Sean Sutton for his final assistant coach. I know, I just wrote a mouthful there. Sean’s fall from grace came in Stillwater. It is where he became addicted to prescription painkillers, where he was arrested, but it could also be where he returns to help Oklahoma State and it’s mission on and off the basketball court. [Go Pokes $$$]
No part of me thinks this could happen on multiple levels (Sutton/Holder, being back in Stillwater, fired coach returning, etc.) but it’s certainly an interesting thought.
The redemption of a career and Sean thriving would be something we’d all love but I think you’ll see Gundy and Holder splitting a big country pizza and knocking back Coops before this happens.
OSU and NCAA Notes
Cowgirl Tennis making a run for the B12 title….A solid list of college basketball’s transfers….Penn State is letting the media play in their spring game today….K-State could have the best RB stable in the country(???)….Joe Randle found guilty on some charges, mistrial declared on others….Barry’s unbreakable record lives on (no. 5)
Big time W in Lubbock, Pokes win in a 22 run shootout. Five RBI’s from Garrett McCain!

Interesting. Let’s hope this doesn’t turn into a Marcell Ateman 2016-type of situation where he’s week-to-week all year. Promising that it happened in April though.
#OKState defensive end Jordan Brailford is projected to be out four months after undergoing right shoulder surgery. https://t.co/cOstb22joX

What You Missed on PFB
- Boynton secured a grad transfer guard who’s a double-digit scorer
- Pokes have the top quarterback in Texas
- Oklahoma State’s athletic success outpaces its budget
- Carson and Porter look back on spring ball and talk Westbrook
- Glenn Spencer is always watching
- How do first-year receivers perform under Gundy?
- Student-athlete of the year awards were given out
Other Stuff I’m Reading
Woj on Westbrook post game three was phenomenal (Royce was good too)….A legit train ride across the country for $213….Dynamics of a good deputy (probably some solid marriage parallels in there)….The Westbrook debate done well….Pretty interesting how tech savvy on-shore drilling is becoming
Every single Big 12 defensive back trying to cover James Washington and Tyron Johnson next year:
BAHHAHAHAHHAHA DeAndre Jordan called out Gordon Hayward on defense like "I SEE YOU IM LOCKED IN" and then got straight up roasted ??? pic.twitter.com/hSM6bkPBde
