Day Two Guy
Vincent Taylor got some pretty favorable grades recently on his draft prospects for next weekend.
The first nose tackle to crack the list, Taylor’s intriguing potential will likely see him selected some time on Day 2. Although far from perfect, his flashes of brilliance are hard to ignore…. Taylor moves extremely well for a man his size, helping him generate pressure with finesse as well as power. He is a potential Day 1 starter. [ProFootballFocus]
Potential day one starter! You can’t blame the guy for not valuing his financial future over the 2017 Cowboy football season but man, would he have been a monster in the Big 12. The Pokes are the favorites with him back, no?
A Punishment that Fits the Crime
Non-OSU here but an argument made in the Baylor case was interesting.
The problem with the death penalty is that you end up punishing folks that didn’t have anything to do with the scandal. The same thing occurred with the big punishment at Penn State that the NCAA rescinded awhile later. The hope is that the players who were involved in these horrible crimes against women are gone and that the new coaching staff works hard to create a completely different culture.
I think Matt Rhule, AD Mack Rhoades and the new president, Dr. Livingstone, will work diligently to restore Baylor’s good name. But I agree that things were obviously completely out of control. It’s just hard to find the right punishment. [SportsDay]
I agree with the conclusion but not remotely for the same reasons.
Is it a reasonable precedent for schools to be deemed sufficiently punished by washing their hands of the perpetrators? Don’t give them the death penalty because power five football is big business their weren’t NCAA infractions that merit it, a la Penn State and it’s epic back tracking. The NCAA isn’t a moral watchdog punishing athletics for crimes against humanity – they punish for recruiting, academics, etc..
But this absolution granted because Briles’ got axed is nonsense.
OSU and NCAA Notes
Miami Beach Bowl => Frisco Gridlock Game….Amelia Molitor got paid (right?)….Fun story on the rise of the LSU offensive coordinator….Baylor landed a touted RB/WR transfer from Tennessee yesterday (made big changes to their offense in spring game als0)….Sooners swept the Cowboy tennis team yesterday
Tech came back firing on Saturday, Pokes drop game two. Different story for softball as the Cowgirls won it in the bottom of the seventh.
