A big congrats to Mrs. M for passing the bar! I’m utterly grateful to you and that my flaws are now covered under attorney-client privilege.

Backup QB Race

NewsOK’s Frederickson gives an update on where things are backing up no. 2:

A lot is going to take place between now on the start of the season, but from what I hear and some practice observation, here’s my take:

Safest choice for QB2: Taylor Cornelius. Brings the most experience of the group. Elite size, good arm, underrated scrambler. He’s a redshirt junior. Feels comfortable in game setting.

QB2 with most upside: Keondre Wudtee. Fluid athlete who doesn’t shake under practice pass rush. Big-time arm. Dangerous runner.

In the long run, I do think Wudtee is the future at QB with further development. I think Cornelius would be effective though for a short period of time next season if Rudolph is dinged up, like you mentioned in your question. [NewsOK]

Jelani isn’t mentioned, points pretty solidly towards a redshirt year for Cam Newton the true freshman. Wudtee sounds interesting, I’d like to see him play some fourth quarters this year.

Isn’t Cornelius/Corndog/Oil Baron starting to feel like the new Clint Chelf? Just doing his thing and waiting for his shot. All we’re lacking is some “get away from the cops speed” right?

Tyron Johnson = ________?

Gundy gives an interesting comp for the five star transfer:

“He’s a lot bigger than what a Josh Stewart would be,” Gundy said, referencing the former OSU receiver who caught 101 passes in 2012. “He has made some of our guys miss in practice like Josh used to do in games, but he’s bigger than Josh. I don’t know which mold he fits.

I’m scared to compare him to anybody that’s playing in the NFL or played in the NFL because that’s somewhat unfair for him and us, but you’re talking about a guy that’s 205 pounds that has the ability to make you miss and then run away from you.” [TulsaWorld]

So there it is: a bigger, equally elusive Josh Stewart with the earlier mentioned Clint Chelf “get away from the cops” speed.

All signs point to him playing inside receiver provoking the question: what the heck do you do if James Washington, Marcell Ateman, Tyron and McClesky are all on the field at the same time?
