Iowa-OSU fallout

I didn’t hear a lot about the way Iowa’s big talker from last week was treated, but this is tremendous.

“You want to be a tough guy, be it on the mat – you don’t need to be a tough guy off the mat,” John Smith said. “He’s a tough guy … and I appreciate how tough he is. But do it on the mat, that’s where it needs to stay.”

While Smith heard what Gilman – who won the 125-pound match with a 12-4 major decision – had to say before the match, several of Oklahoma State’s wrestlers said after the dual that they hadn’t read the bulletin board material. “I try not to listen to that kid,” senior Anthony Collica said. “I don’t know, he’s not the brightest.” [Stillwater Newspress]

Underwood chats about foul situation

I actually didn’t hear Brad Underwood discuss the KU-OSU foul situation on Saturday after the game. But he did talk about it on Monday.

While Oklahoma State was called for 30 fouls, Kansas was called for 14. During a Monday phone conversation, I recited that stat in a question to Underwood: “OSU was charged with 30 fouls. Now that you’ve reviewed the video, did OSU actually commit 30 fouls?” Underwood’s response: “No.” [Tulsa World]

Perfect. Underwood also discussed Mitchell Chamberlain in depth on Monday.

Gundy talks domestic violence

The conversation also gets into domestic violence and football and Mike Gundy’s “zero tolerance” policy towards the issue. “It’s important in us to try and instill in them the values we think is going to benefit them, their family, their children 20 years from now.” [CRFF]

These conversations with Gundy and Rob Glass have been terrific and have done nothing to dispel my notion that Gundy is the best OSU will ever have.

Kansas is rolling

Jayhawks took down Cyclones on Monday evening. They’re going to win the Big 12 until I’m a grandfather.

The only other college basketball team that can match that winning streak is Gonzaga, which is 17-0. But what makes Kansas’ winning streak even more impressive than the Zags’ winning streak is that it features seven victories against top-50 KenPom schools, two of which have come in true road games. Meantime, the Jayhawks are 6-0 in the Big 12 and — with all due respect to West Virginia and Baylor — probably on their way to a 13th consecutive league title. [CBS Sports]

More OSU/Sports

I went on the No Laying Up pod on Monday to talk JT and Rory … Well, the Willie Taggart era is not starting well in Oregon … A great look back at the OSU-Texas 3OT game.
