Dream Job Jitters
Doug recaps his Yankee job interview a bit:
“I feel good about it,” he said while hurrying through the airport to catch a flight. “I have no idea, but I talked a lot, maybe talked too much.
“What I did was I kind of walked them down a path of presentation. ‘Feel free to interject and interrupt.’ They felt like I answered a lot of their questions in what I was presenting.
“We’re all in this together. Everybody wants Oklahoma State to be successful. I’d hire me.” [NewsOK]
Take away the context and just listen to a guy talking about a job he yearns for. Have you ever interviewed for a job you desperately wanted? You press to convince, pointing at your credentials while pining for the longed for result?
I’m not painting Doug as a teenage boy hoping to take out the prom queen but as someone with relatively major time and emotion (and minor $$$) invested in the university, it’s attractive to consider a coach who resembles that. A coach you can trust.
R(o)amon-ing the Plains
More on the reason for the change here.
“He’s better out there roaming around than he is locked into a certain area,” Gundy said. “He’s like one of those people that you work with that you’re talking to and they never look at you because they’re thinking about something else and working over here on something. That’s how Ramon is. So he’s better roaming around and freelancing.”
In turn, the Pokes are hoping they can utilize Richards’ instincts to allow him to be aggressive without fear of giving up the big play. They also hope that in most games, he’ll be able to hold up enough against the run to stay on the field. [ESPN]
Do you think it was Ramon at times struggling in man coverage or his highlight reel of consistently being in the right place at the right time that led to the position change? Ramon just getting instinctive in the middle of the field is a pretty interesting idea.

This slipped through the cracks somehow on Wednesday: Somebody may need to clarify that Animal Planet is a channel on cable TV, not a separate planet.
