A Seat at the Table

Some folks are taken by Jawun’s game and it’s NBA-readiness.

Review Evans’ collegiate resume, and it’s hard not to think that he really was underrated. The sophomore guard somehow missed out on being a consensus All-American despite averaged 19 points per game while putting up a rather obscene 43.6 assist percentage and 3.3 steal rate—numbers no other high-major college basketball player has put up since at least before 2009.

Evans led Oklahoma State to an NCAA tournament berth a year after the school won just 12 games. He also guided the Cowboys to the top team offensive efficiency rating in the country, despite being the program’s only true NBA-level prospect. In the KenPom era—that is, since 2002—only one other college player has managed the same feat: perennial All-Star and “Point God” Chris Paul. [VICE Sports]

NBA players mentioned in the article are Chris Paul and Isaiah Thomas, diminutive game changers that play bigger than they are.

Here are some hypotheticals: If Jawun played at Duke or UNC, how much more draft hype would he have at this point? What about if he was 6’2″ with that 6’6″ wingspan?

Neither are reality but guys like six-foot Ish Smith found more utility than the lanky Reggie Jackson and at 5’10”, point guard Tyler Ulis was the Western Conference rookie of the month in April averaging 20 points a game. Best not to sleep on Jawun.

Rookie of the Year

Impact Big 12 freshmen were predicted and an OSU freshman mentioned is worth being excited about.

Oklahoma State RB Chuba Hubbard: The Cowboys are looking for a backup for reigning Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year Justice Hill. With three senior rushers from the 2017 team gone, the incoming, four-star Canada native will have a shot to become Hill’s wingman. [ESPN]

While the Chris Carson “mack truck” spot is open, Hubbard’s athleticism makes him such an appealing option. Here’s a mildly hot take: who’s surprised when the four-star Canadian sprinter brings home the second consecutive Big 12 offensive freshman of the year award?

OSU and NCAA Notes

OSU and Clemson have the same over/under for 2017….OSU has the second-best special teams unit in the Big 12 without naming a starting kicker yet….Texas had a couple of defensive linemen transfer out….Plenty of Bedlam-flavor on Mel’s draft board for 2018….So Saban tricks everyone into feeling important?….Lane Taylor got paid this week

Bedlam baseball wrapped up at 5-2 in the fifth, finishing up today.

ESPN wrapped up their post-spring rankings and the lowest average of all positions went to the good guys. Favorites now, right?

Cowgirl Softball got that first win in the tourney yesterday,

Other Cowgirls wrecking the post-season…to the Elite Eight.

And here’s what’s coming today:
