Call Him Tank

Colin Simpson went yahtzee twice on Thursday to secure win No. 2 for the Pokes in OKC. Don’t call him, Homer, though like West Virginia’s coach did after the game. Call him something else.

“(Pitching coach) Rob Walton actually gave me that name in my freshman fall,” Simpson said. “We walked into the indoor cages to just hit some (batting practice) in the cages, and Rob looks at me and says, ‘You’re kind of built like a tank. I’m going to call you Tank.’

“Since then it’s stuck.” [NewsOK]

There is no sports that’s more fun when it’s rolling well than baseball, and the Pokes are now two wins from the most improbable regional appearance in school history.

Jawun Running Showtime?

Could No. 1 be headed to L.A.? Wouldn’t that be something …

With D’Angelo Russell seeming to be better suited as a shooting guard moving forward, the Lakers are in need of a true point guard and floor general. Should they pass on a guard at the top of the draft, bringing in someone like Evans would make a lot of sense. [Lakers Nation]

If they pass on Lonzo for Fox or somebody else at the top of the draft, I guess it could happen, but this seems far-fetched at best and illogical at worst. I’d be rooting for it, though. Jawun on the Lake Show vs. Marcus on the Celts? Put it in my veins.

OSU And NCAA Notes

James Washington as one of the 17 most irreplaceable players in CFB (duh) … Athlon put together its All-Big 12 teams, and OSU only had two offensive players on the first team … Vanessa Shippy landed on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Softball Team … OU-tOSU scheduled for ABC in primetime (GO BUCKS!)

Three Pokes move on to the NCAA Championships.

Good to see a former Poke doing well in D.C.
