Happy Bedlam week, everyone.

Oklahoma State is no longer Oklahoma State

Berry Tramel on how the Cowboys sit No. 2 in the Big 12 pecking order when it comes to great schools. Not even Texas can touch them right now.

All of which makes it even more stunning that Bedlam has ascended into the Big 12’s most important game. OU-Texas has dissolved into referendums on Bob Stoops and whoever his Longhorn counterpart happens to be. Bedlam ranks No. 1. Bedlam is the game that annually figures to carry the most Big 12 weight [NewsOK]

It really is a stunning reality. One we all take for granted. Also, here’s one for all those clamoring for someone other than Mike Gundy. That’s what Georgia did, too.

How to Handle a problem like Joe Mixon

On how Bedlam will be won.

OSU’s defense does Saturday will be fascinating — against a duo like Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon, the Cowboys are obligated to devote resources to stopping the run. But the fact OSU has reduced chunk plays allowed in the pass game has helped save this season. OU is tied for third in the nation in passes of 40-plus yards with 19. [Tulsa World]

It’s pick your poison with OU and pray Ramon Richards gets picks.

Texas gets help?

Is one of Tom Herman’s QBs (and a former A&M signal-caller) coming to Austin??

Allen, who sat out the 2016 season after transferring from Texas A&M to Houston, is on track to graduate and should he transfer once again, would not have to sit out a year as a graduate transfer. Which would mean he could arrive in Austin with two years of eligibility. [LGG]

This would be a pretty big get although I’m not sure there’s that big of a difference between Allen and Shane Buechele.

Bedlam with ranked teams

How good have OSU and OU been in recent years?

From 1936 (the first year when there were national rankings in college football) through 2007, there were 72 Oklahoma State-Oklahoma football games. In only eight of those 72 did both teams enter with a national ranking. During the 2008-16 chapter of the series, the Bedlam rivalry ascended to a higher level of national prominence. For the sixth time in nine years, OU and OSU both are nationally ranked. [Tulsa World]

Wow.

How good will Tom Herman be?

Charlie Strong apparently thinks I could coach this team.

About a month ago, Strong made a claim that’s worth assessing again: No matter who coaches Texas in 2017, they’ll win 10 games. Because this is Texas, it makes perfect sense to saddle the new coach with lofty and borderline unfair expectations before his first day on the job. But the next staff is taking over a team primed to play for Big 12 titles again soon. [ESPN]

I’m unconvinced until I actually see it happen. Such has been the mantra on the 40 Acres. [whispers] They only have three Big 12 titles (one fewer than Baylor).

Michigan-Ohio State

I watched almost the entire thing. Ohio State’s unis stunk (so did its offense), but that was as much fun as I’ve had watching a non-Oklahoma State game all year.

The hate is there. The toe-to-toe affair between two of the country’s best coaches and teams is there too. And it doesn’t appear to be going anywhere with Meyer and Harbaugh at their respective posts. Having such an event to look forward to annually is almost not fair, as postseason implications and Big Ten Championships are sure to almost always be on the line. [11W]

I hope we get a Bedlam that’s half as entertaining (and twice as engaging on offense).
