Bedlam week!

Bedlam means everything

Good stuff here from Jenni Carlson on what Saturday means for the state and the programs.

Would this game be better if it was under the lights at night? Or if ESPN had decided to send the Gameday crew to town? I suppose it’s possible. But game times and side shows don’t make big games. Dynamic talent, high stakes, lengthy tradition and recent history do. Bedlam 2016 has all of the above. [NewsOK]

I’m over the CFB Playoff for this week. Bedlam means so much and is too important to be ruined by what it doesn’t mean nationally.

Does OSU deserve playoff spot?

Some people don’t really think so.

The Cowboys have accomplished little to suggest they’re worthy of being in the playoff, even if the Central Michigan debacle is (rightfully) considered a win by the committee. Yes, they beat a Pitt team that holds victories over Clemson and Penn State this year, but Oklahoma State followed that win up with a double-digit loss to a Baylor team whose only other Big 12 wins have come against Iowa State and Kansas.

There’s no denying how good Mason Rudolph has been, as he is third in the country in yards through the air and his PFF QB rating ranks him seventh. Similar to their in-state rival, however, the Cowboys defense has been largely suspect. DT Vincent Taylor has been an excellent run defender this year and leads Oklahoma State with 12-combined sacks and hits, but no other Cowboy has more than six. The defense has collectively missed 117 tackles and is averaging more than 11 per conference game. [PFF]

[whispers] it’s a MUCH better defense than OU.

Rudolph returns to Norman

The Reindeer visits the scene of his first crime.

On Saturday, Rudolph makes his 27th start and his first in Norman since a day that perhaps changed the trajectory of Oklahoma State football. While his first game at the University of Oklahoma was pivotal and memorable, this one has the chance to be historic. Rudolph can deliver Oklahoma State’s second Big 12 championship and its first since 2011. He could also become the first OSU quarterback to win in Norman twice. [Tulsa World]

Whoo boy I am pumped for this game.

Jawun Evans, star

Jeff Borzello wrote sophomores becoming superstars recently.

Evans was a McDonald’s All-American, so this isn’t a complete surprise — but he might be the best point guard in the country right now. He’s eclipsed 30 points three times in six games, is shooting 56.3 percent from 3-point range — and is still dishing out more than five assists per game. [ESPN – $]

I would personally like to see Evans’ PPG decrease and APG increase, but yes, he’s as good as it gets as far as college point guards go.

Jim Grobe Ejects

Grobe confirmed this week that he’s leaving Baylor after this year which is not a surprise. What he said about the university was interesting though.

The sexual assault scandal that led to the firing of Baylor coach Art Briles has been “a little more challenging than I expected when I came in,” Grobe said. “I really thought Baylor would be looked at as having taken a strong stance. And it’s kind of been the opposite. People felt like we had bigger problems than anybody else, so it’s been more caustic. [NewsOK]

It would have helped if Baylor had gotten rid of all the assistants up front. As it stands, there is a lot of unnecessary tension because they didn’t.

Is Texas a great job?

Bryan Curtis writes brilliantly on Texas and Charlie Strong.

Here’s my theory of college football: There aren’t great programs. There are only great coaches. I know this because I spent most of my childhood watching crappy Texas football teams. [Ringer]

Everything in me wants to disagree with this, but I think he might be right.

Former Soccer Player Struggling

Really sad story here about Megan Marchesano who is a former OSU soccer player and used to date golfer Morgan Hoffmann. You should read and consider giving to a former Poke.

The only option she has left is to try to rebuild her immune system using Stem Cell Therapy or IVIG. These are the last treatment savailable that could very well save her life. As you can imagine, Stem Cell Therapy and IVIG are very expensive treatments that are not covered by insurance. Being that Megan has been sick for so long, she has accumulated a lot of medical bills. Her family has been so generous in helping her with all the costs. [GoFundMe]
