Football News

AFCA Executive Director on OSU’s title: “That probably was the difference (with the bowl game). With the selection group, that factor in itself could have been the deciding factor.” [NewsOK]

Michael Wilson on getting benched then getting an OL job back: “It was a little disappointing and I kind of took the time to kind of reflect on what I could do better and how I could get better from here, and what steps could I take to get back out on the field.” [Tulsa World]

How does Ben Grogan, all-time scoring leader sound? [PFB]

This was spectacular: Mike Gundy blamed cell phones for college football parity. [PFB]

Oklahoma State hasn’t lost a football game in Lawrence, Kan., since 1994. But the Cowboys’ last two trips to KU have been hairy. [NewsOK]

This made me laugh — Justin Gilbert sets 10 alarms to prevent oversleeping in Pittsburgh. [PFB]

Big 12 Expansion

OU president David Boren espoused the decision to remain at 10 by saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” A rather unfortunate phrase, since the opposite is true. The Big 12 is broken and needs to be fixed. [NewsOK]

There’s still a very valid and underplayed argument that the Big 12 is the best place for Texas and Oklahoma. If Texas went to the Big Ten or SEC, it would no longer be the biggest voice in the room, and it would have to change its behavior and its expectations. It would have to accept (gasp!) equal revenue sharing and no Longhorn Network. [ESPN]

Robert Allen: “The Big 12 is safe and sound and on solid ground. Yes, read that again you Pokes fans that want the Cowboys to sneak off to the east and join the SEC West. For you really crazy fans that want to live your life on Pacific time while living in the Central time zone you can comprehend the same message. The Big 12 is safe and sound and on solid ground. That is for the next 8-9 years and that’s a long time.” [Go Pokes]

Guerin Emig: “Until that fateful day arrives, at least the Big 12 won’t smack of desperation, which is about the kindest thing I can write about this maladjusted conference right now. Raiding Group of Five leagues seemed desperate all along, something that should have been obvious to Big 12 brass long before Monday.” [Tulsa World]

Dennis Dodd: “Boren also kept making vague references to technology as if driverless cars were going to save the Big 12. If ESPN can’t yet figure out how to monetize its WatchESPN app, what fiber optic cable is the Big 12 going to ride to success?” [CBS]

Some terrific tweets about expansion here. [CRFF]

Around the league

Perine is out several weeks. [Yahoo]

Also, I was not aware of this.

Dana on his squad: “Excitement level’s good. Like I told the team last night, better put the previous game to rest. That’s tough. Hard to do every week. That’s why the Big 12’s tough, because you gotta do it every week. We’re excited where we’re at. But it’s just five games.” [NewsOK]

Hoops News

Leyton Hammonds on Brad Underwood’s famous teaching tool: the treadmill. “Once you hop off, there’s no just going and getting some water, having a break. He’s like, alright, get back in the drill. So it’s tough but building character, building mental toughness, physical toughness, I’m all for it.” [Tulsa World]

Brad Underwood knows how to win all the hearts, doesn’t he? [PFB]

Is OSU historically underrated or overrated in basketball? [PFB]
