Farewell Franklin

Roger Franklin was supposed to be the next Ivan McFarlin.

High energy. Grit. Heart. Determination. A motor that doesn’t quit until the last buzzer. A four star recruit out of Duncanville, TX, he could have punched his ticket to almost any program in the country. But he chose orange and instantly became a fan favorite, helping to reignite a passion among the students and alumni that had since left the program after Eddie’s reign.

As of this morning, Franklin is planning on leaving the Cowboy nation to move back home to be closer to his ailing father who has had health complications since a brain surgery a few years ago.

“He wants to come closer to home because he’s scared something might happen to his dad and he’ll be in Stillwater,” his uncle Andre Johnson told GoPokes.com.

Who could blame him? Isn’t that dedication to family something that all of us can connect with? I think it’s what every cowboy would do in that situation. And that’s the thing I’ve loved about Franklin these past few years. He’s a cowboy at heart.

He’s a 6’5” hybrid/role guy playing out of position, doing everything asked of him and then some. He gave every part of himself, every minute, every game and we loved him for it.

Don’t go chase down his stats for the last year and argue in the comments about his impact on the season from them alone, because I won’t listen. He played with heart on a team that seemingly gave theirs away off the court.

We will miss his hustle and that grin that would show up after an and-1. We will miss him locking arms with his fellow students for the alma mater. But mostly we will miss him for the way he represented the Cowboys, his family, and himself.

Farewell Roger, Peace Love Cowboys.
