Final Predictions: Oklahoma State-Pitt
We whiffed on this the first few games, but here are some final predictions for what I believe is one of OSU’s most important non-conference games in quite a while.
Kyle Porter
Player of the game: Chad Whitener. Whitener knows what Pitt is going to do. OSU knows what Pitt is going to do. Everybody knows what Pitt is going to do. This feels like an opportunity for the center of Oklahoma State’s defense to have a monstrous performance and for Whitener to have 10-15 tackles and a fumble recovery. Something in that range.
Bold prediction: Justice Hill will have more touches than the rest of the RBs combined. I think the coaches know after watching the CMU tape where their bell cow resides. No. 27 is the future, but he’s also the present.
Final score: Oklahoma State: 35 | Pitt: 27
This is a big game for the program, and everybody knows it. Rudolph won’t have two stinkers in a row, OSU will play to the perceived level of its opponent and we will all feel much better about that Big 12 opener this time tomorrow.
Kyle Boone
Player of the game: Mason Rudolph. As everyone noticed last week, the success on offense is largely determined by the effectiveness of QB1. Pitt isn’t used to facing a quarterback of Rudolph’s caliber and I think OSU will take advantage of their mismatches on the outside with James Washington and Jhajuan Seales.
Bold prediction: Oklahoma State will pull out two gadget plays. With the game plan last week coming out vanilla, the Cowboys can’t afford to come out flat again against an opponent like Pitt. I think Yurcich will have a play or two up his sleeve to try and steal the momentum early and put it out of reach before the fourth quarter.
Final score: Oklahoma State 41, Pitt 27
I don’t think there’s any way that OSU doesn’t come out guns ablazing in this one after what happened last week. The team will be determined to make a statement and prove they deserve to be talked about as a top 25 team. The depth on the defensive line will be put to the test today, and I think they’ll survive a hard fought battle by muscling up in the trenches and winning the turnover battle.
