According to Joe Schad, Wes Lunt has narrowed his transfer choices down to Illinois, Southern Miss, Tennessee, Louisville, and Vanderbilt. I put odds on each of those schools here.
You all know the news by now: 1s is transferring, presumably to Southern Miss or Akron or somewhere he’s going to throw 60 TDs and haunt us for the next four years.
I double (triple) checked to make sure I wasn’t being fooled by the “a darn Schefter” fake Twitter account but Trey Wingo confirmed on NFL Live today.
The story was later updated to say that he has been suspended for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. This doesn’t stem from his DUI last summer either. Read
You may have heard of this event that happened at the end of last week. It was covered lightly by some major media outlets though, frankly, I’m worried didn’t get enough attention by most.
Anyway, OSU had one player taken — one of my favorite players in recent memory, Joe Randle want to the Dallas Cowboys in the 5th Round. His tweet celebrating the moment was pretty outstanding too:
You don’t know how big a fans my family is of the Cowboys.
All of this is great, he’s going to back up DeMarco Murray who, as one of my friends put it over the weekend, is made of glass — so Randle should see plenty of time. He’s reunited with Dez Bryant and Dan Bailey, Boone may have gotten him drafted, and well, you don’t know how big a fans my family is of the Cowboys.
My question though: why would you leave the Big 12 title favorite to be a 5th round pick? And more importantly, why was the best RB in the Big 12 the last two years a 5th round pick?
“It’s a good non-conference matchup for both of us. It gives us each a quality opponent out of conference play, which is ultimately going to factor in when we get to the four-team playoff.”
Translation: “I hear Southern Cal and Texas will have job openings after this season ends.”
The never ending power struggle between Holder and Gundy rages on. Gundy hates good non-conference games (though I’m not sure how he feels about them with the impending College Football Playoff) and Holder likes lining his pockets with the cash they bring.
But this is why this one is so…odd. Boise is great, yes, but I have to think there’s a financial disparity between playing FSU in Jerryworld and playing Boise in Stillwater/Boise.
Oklahoma State released its post-cotillion depth chart on Tuesday
Here’s a look:
No surprises here but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Jhajuan Seales overtake Injury-Prone Tracy Moore (his new full name) by the time conference starts.
Also not sure why the running backs never get the QB treatment of “Jeremy Smith or Desmond Roland.”
Also, how hard is Orange Power going to overanalyze the order of Lunt, Walsh, and Chelf on this?
I have a confession: I didn’t watch the spring cotillion on Saturday. Heck, I didn’t even follow the spring cotillion1 on Saturday.
I was offline basically all weekend, detoxing from my Masters hangover, working in the yard, cleaning the garage. Really glamorous stuff.
The cotillion, I thought, would just be a series of Josh Stewart deep balls, punt return fumbles, and the precursor to an ad in the O’Colly for a new kicker/punter. Then Gundy had to go full-blown Gundy Badger mode and take the three QBs hostage after the game, essentially declaring them off-limits to the media until after OSU has played 60 minutes against Mississippi State in Houston.
He also basically said “I have no idea who the starter is going to be” without actually saying “I have no idea who the starter is going to be.”
Well OK then.
I don’t have a problem with Gundy doing Gundy Badger stuff, that’s one of the reasons I love him actually. But this is a little ridiculous. It’s 2013 and we’re playing football, not going to war. Who cares who knows who the starting QB is?
The undisclosed starting QB is one of the things I hate about sports — and it’s not a personal complaint, I actually have more to write about now than I did four days ago. But what’s the issue with just saying “you know, I thought Chelf was the starting QB a week ago but it’s a QB derby again, it’s up in the air” instead of “I will not talk about the QBs” like they’re responsible for the black plague or something.
Keep writing those columns, Jenni, Clint Chelf will keep starting those games.
In Mike Gundy’s presser yesterday he confirmed the train will continue on its tracks and that there’s nothing he sees that’s going to derail it anytime soon.
From okstate.com:
Clint Chelf is our starter, he takes all the reps with the ones right now. The other guys compete out there, but I don’t necessarily feel like there’s a battle out there to start in the first game.
I know a lot of you (probably myself included) never thought for a second Mike Gundy was heading anywhere besides Stillwater National Bank at the end of last season, but Gundy said something vastly different today to Fowler.
He said he almost became the coach at Tennessee.
You should go read the entire thing but here were a few of my parts:
One of Gundy’s three sons was Googling Knoxville schools. Another asked him what a Volunteer was. He didn’t know, but for a moment, he thought he wanted to find out full-time.
“At some point, that’s where we thought we were going to go,” Gundy said.
