Instant Recap: Oklahoma State Falls Short in Waco 35-24

Oklahoma State came out of the gate looking less than stellar, allowing Baylor to march down the field with ease to take a 6-0 lead before a more than hour long lightning delay struck again, this time in Waco.

The Pokes put together a methodically scripted drive to march down the field on the ensuing possession, which ended in Justice Hill’s first career touchdown. After a back-and-forth first half that was littered with two turnovers a piece from both teams, the Pokes went to the break down 21-14 after allowing this touchdown to the 6-foot-4 Ish Zamora who had an incredible performance:

And coming out of the half, the game plan to draw out the time of possession by running the football and establishing the run game was evident again, with a more than 7-minute drive that ended with a Rennie Childs touchdown to knot it at 21-21.

The second half was as much a “defensive struggle” as what you could expect from the Big 12. The Bears faced a fourth and short on their side of the field, and the Pokes held up as the Pokes took over on the short side of the field. But after marching down to the four yard line, Oklahoma State was then stood up on fourth and two as Rennie Childs charged into a pile of defenders and was held up short.

And just as the Cowboys were charging down the field down 28-24, the Pokes called up a play to Justice Hill who powered his way down near the goal line — but fumbled.

Baylor charged down the field 99 yards and scored on the ensuing possession, putting the game out of reach 35-24. And with OSU in four-down territory marching down the field, Rudolph threw his only INT of the game in what was essentially a punt downfield in a desperation attempt under pressure.

Even with the Cowboys taking over control down 11 with just a few minutes remaining, Oklahoma State was never able to gain any serious traction on the final drive. The Pokes hobbled their way down the field but with Baylor defending in the end zone, the game ended with Rudolph taking a sack as the time expired.
