Mason Cox Scores Outrageous Goal in AFL Game
The YouTube video the AFL posted read “American giants aren’t supposed to do this.” And I would agree. “This” being a ridiculous goal that would have been impressive for someone who is 5’11 much less a foot taller than that.
“We were really keen to play Mason,” said Collingwood head coach Nathan Buckley. “We thought that even if it was a little slippery, against a really good defensive side in Fremantle, you were going to have to play down the line a little bit to talls.”
Collingwood beat Fremantle for the first time since 2012 over the weekend to snap a three-game losing streak. Mason got some love around the web starting with this post on SB Nation which sung his praises.
Midway through the season Cox has scored 15 goals, which ranks 50th in the league. That might not sound great, but consider that among rookies he ranks close to the top and he’s playing on a less-than-stellar team. Suddenly he’s a player to watch.
Here’s a look at the crazy goal.
