Oklahoma State Offers 5-star Small Forward Gerald Liddell

Mike Boynton is picking up where he and his fellow staff members left off under the Brad Underwood regime. In year one, the staff didn’t shy away from making offers to big-time prospects. And even though he’s just days into his tenure, the same can be said so far for Boynton. Boynton’s staff extended an offer to five-star small forward Gerald Liddell over the weekend.

Liddell is ranked as the fifth best small forward recruit in the country, and the 19th overall prospect in the entire 2018 class. With offers from nine schools including Texas, Kansas and SMU, the staff has its work cut out for them. Those schools have had the same staffs largely intact and made Liddell a priority for years, as he’s been a known commodity in AAU circles for awhile. So making up ground in this stage of the recruiting process is a difficult task for a new head coach. The 247sports crystal ball currently projects the Texas Longhorns as the favorite to land his services.

The Steele High School recruit from Cibolo, Texas (home of Jordan Sterns) is on the AAU circuit already for the summer playing for RM5 — a Nike EYBL program out of Texas. He was in Owasso, Oklahoma this weekend where he showed out in front of OSU’s Lamont Evans — who happened to be on site watching his son play in the same tournament. Because this is the dead period in recruiting, Evans or any staff members aren’t able to make contact with prospective student athletes.

Boynton is the one who made the offer on Sunday evening.

Here’s his brief scouting report from ESPN.

Liddell is a long and lean forward that is very talented. He is smooth with the ball and has a great feel for the game and not to mention his play making ability that is fueled by his excellent skill set. Liddell is athletic and excels in transition.
