OSU Finding Success Recruiting Outside Texas

Published

on

Texas is a well-known recruiting hotspot for many programs across the country, including OSU. The Cowboys signed 15of 26 recruits from Texas in the 2014 class and 10 of 21 in the 2015 class.

With so much attention paid to Texas, it is easy to wonder if local talent is being overlooked. Of the eight commitments in the 2016 class, only 3 are from Texas. Some of the attention has been turned to in-state talent, and the Cowboys have received commitments from Booker T. Washington running back Justice Hill and wide receiver Dillon Stoner in this cycle.

What is even more unique is the recruiting success Mike Gundy has enjoyed in the Sunflower state.

The Cowboys have had recent success recruiting Kansas under Mike Gundy. Trace Clark, Jerel Morrow, Chris Carson, and Joseph Randle are all prospects who played in Kansas before inking to play in Stillwater.

The 2016 class currently consists of two commitments from prospects playing in the state of Kansas – Junior college cornerback Malik Kearse and recent offensive lineman commit Teven Jenkins.

There may be more coming soon.

Olathe, Kansas safety Isaiah Simmons visited Stillwater this weekend to check out the facilities and, of course, try on some gear.

With offers from Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville and several name brand programs, don’t be surprised if an offer from OSU comes soon for Simmons.
