Pistolcast #1 – Texas and a Jimmer

Kyle Porter —  January 28, 2011 — 12 Comments

Q and I talk about the Texas game and a little bit about the Wednesday night memorial. We went off on an interesting Rick Barnes tangent that leads to Q trying to rationalize an in-depth discussion of Barnes’ ears. We also discuss Jimmer vs. Steph Curry, Wojo in Maui, and why Andy Katz is suddenly a PFB villain.

Let us know what and/or who you want to hear on future Pistolcasts, I’ve already got my dream wish list started but I’d love to hear you weigh in. Also, the iTunes link should be up soon and I’ll make sure and pass along via the blog as well as Twitter. If you’re not following us you can do so here.

Back a little later today with The Morning Fade (which is actually going to be the brunch-time or maybe mid-afternoon fade).

  1. Good stuff guys! Gotta love Jimmer!

And sounded like Q’s man crush on Rick Barnes had less to do with his coaching ability and more to do with his stunning good looks…

  2. Solid 1st episode. Lovin’ the variety bro.

  3. For someone who has only been a Cowboy fan for about 12-13 years, I am interested in finding out the history of a few OSU traditions.

Where did the phrase “Good night Vienna!” come from, and what exactly does it mean?

When did the tradition of making a gun with your hand start? My friend from Tech swears that this wasn’t a tradition before 2000 and thinks we stole it from Tech. I think she is mistaken.

Oh and who had the Spirit Rider first – OSU or Tech? When did this become a tradition? Bullet and the Spirit Rider have got to be one of my favorites.

Does anyone know what happened to Cowboy Joe or Bob or whatever his name was? He was the guy who would bang a drum in the stands wearing cutoff jean shorts and resembled someone who might own a trailer. He was the most embarrassing thing at OSU in 2000 when I started college there. So glad he is not still a tradition. I actually remember voting to remove that tradition.

I consider myself a huge OSU sports fan, but I’m not a lifer like most of your bloggers. Help me out if you can!

  4. I can’t really imagine Jen catching a pass from Durant…

  5. Loved the pistolcast guys! Wish I had been at the game instead of here in Chicago. I think my affection toward Rick is well known after I shook his hand at the ’07 Texas game at halftime. Man I miss those games…..

  6. According to the internets, when Rick Barnes was three years old he was playing with a pig on a family friend’s farm and it bit off part of his left ear.

  7. PistolsGuy, how can you disagree with Q on Eaton? Sean let him stay out of shape and play out of control. Ford would have shaped that up once he stepped foot in Stillwater. Penn hit a 3 in the Texas game by the way. And Curry > Jimmer. I’d say I have a man crush on Curry but I feel like that would be statutory infatuation. One more thing, when going through the remaining schedule, I loved the pause from Q after “at KU…”

  8. Pistolsguy I just listened to the whole Pistolcast. I really enjoyed it and I’ve really enjoyed everything you have done with Pistols Firing. It is great. The only thing I can’t believe is that you haven’t noticed the Rick Barnes ear thing before.
    Keep up the great work.
