Roundtable: PFB’s Thoughts on Bedlam, Dede Westbrook, and Big 12 Title Game

The PFB staff had some fun on slack today, breaking down Bedlam, OSU’s shot at the Big 12 crown and more. Here’s our full, mostly unedited, conversation.

Boone: Alright lets start. Bedlam Saturday: What are you most worried about if you’re OSU?

Cox: Baker Mayfield

Fleming: My secondary

Cox: Dede is great but Mayfield makes the ship go.

Porter: I’m concerned that they can’t match OU score for score. Steve Kerr (RIP my mentions) once told Bill Simmons something like, “winning titles is all about getting stops.” I’m not sure OSU can do that when the chips are down for a championship on Saturday.

Fleming: I’m also concerned that Rudolph will be away Rudolph and not home Rudolph

Cox: Feel like OSU is going to have to depend on getting at least a couple turnovers from OU.

Boone: I’m afraid that the defense won’t be able to stop Perine/Mixon punch. 2014, Perine went down with an injury that changed the look and feel of the game. And had Texas’ top tailback not gone down in Stillwater this season, it could have been a different outcome, too. D-line needs to be stout.

Cox: OSU will HAVE to take advantage of things like field position, etc on offense. Can’t afford to shoot themselves in the foot and fall behind early.

Caleb Deck: Yeah the idea of Away Mason is scary. But his only game in Norman was a success so maybe he won’t feel the nerves? He’s improved so much this season but Bedlam is such an animal.

Porter: I’m just excited to watch our Heisman candidate (Sinor) go against theirs (Baker) all day.

Boone: What specific matchup do you think will play the biggest role in the outcome? (I.E. OU receivers versus OSU secondary.)

Thomas: That one. I think if you can keep Westbrook in check you give yourself an excellent opportunity to get stops

Cox: gotta hope it’s OSU receivers vs. OU’s secondary if you’re an OSU fan… they are weakest there. Also, if OSU’s o-line can hold up against a diminished OU d-line, the Cowboys should be able to put up points.

Caleb: I think Mark Andrews v our linebackers will be big. We’ve gotten beaten with some tight ends so far this year. Limiting him well also allows us to use LB’s to pressure Baker too and if we can lock down Westbrook and limit the safety valve options of Mixon and Andrews they could really stall out.

Carson Cunningham: All three.

Boone: Joe and Perine’s arms are twice the size of my thighs.

Fleming: And sack Baker Mayfield. Do not let him extend plays.

Porter: Has to be our defensive line against their RBs. It was a total joke last year. They just did whatever they wanted.
Also, Jordan Evans maybe not playing could be a big deal.

Cox: Cole better earn some Jimmy John’s

Boone: OK. Last one. Oklahoma State wins the Big 12 title in Norman if ________________________.

Fleming: They win the turnover margin by at least 2

Cox: I’ll go with winning the turnover battle and if they can keep running the ball.

Porter: It wins the turnover battle by 2+. You have to flip possessions on an elite offense like OU. If you can do that, you give yourself a chance. If not, Stoops gets Auburn in New Orleans.

Caleb: Cowboys get 175+ on the ground. If we can have even decent success running the ball and can spread out their defense, I don’t see Mason having any trouble picking them apart and scoring as much as the Sooners.

Boone: Bonus question: Thoughts on this?

Cox: If Dede doesn’t know OSU’s starting corners, I guess Mike was right about Cale’s coaching.

Fleming: He will burn Ramon

Fleming: A lot

Fleming: Oh and another thing — Expect OU to have a handful of gadgets. Lincoln always does. They run wildcat with Mixon and I bet you my house they have a halfback pass in the PB.

Fleming: Don’t know if they’ll use it though

Porter: You own a house?

Fleming: My parents house

Fleming: Don’t tell them I said that
