  1. Well said, John John, simply one of the best ever. And I think he’s right, countries like Russia, Turkey, Iran, etc are going to be as upset as we are. This is one of the dumbest things ever by the IOC. Wrestling *is* the Olympics, it was one of the first sports in Greece.

  2. The motion is designed to reduce the number of medals that USA could bring home from the Olympics. Second it also does not have a women’s following and competition, There is a portion of the IOC which wants more sports like rythmic gymnastics for female gymnasts. It is more photogenic for television transmission and has fairly large teams who compete together so it works out better for TV. We also want to keep things like cycling as they are clean of drugs and are very photogenic as well. Long distance swimming is another newer sport which photographs well. Also events like Kayaking which results in sponsor money and endorsement money from equipment manufacturers iz very popular with portions of the insiders. More tickets are sold for some of these events than for wrestling.

This is a bad thing for the Olympics and for our country. What other sports that those mentioned above were discussed for elimination?

  3. I recently read that golf with replace wrestling in the Olympics.

Did anyone hear or read anything on it to support what I saw?

    • Baseball and softball were eliminated in the last Olympics. They are being replaced in the 2016 Olympics by golf and rugby. There is a list of eight sports that will be considered to replace wrestling, although wrestling is one of the eight sports to be considered. We can only hope that the IOC realizes the colossal mistake they made and chooses wrestling from amongst that list of eight sports. However, getting them to admit that big an error that quickly? Chances aren’t good.
