2017 OL Derek Kerstetter Talks About Decision to Commit to OSU

Among the four verbal commitments of the weekend was 2017 offensive lineman Derek Kerstetter of San Antonio’s Reagan High.

Kerstetter has been a fast riser on the recruiting trail recently, earning offers from Minnesota, North Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Colorado State, Houston, Texas Tech and OSU since March.

But Kerstetter, who picked up his OSU offer just last week, only took days to decide he wanted to be a Cowboy.

“I really enjoyed my visit and like the city of Stillwater,” he told PFB about what went into his decision. “Stillwater is an awesome place. The facilities were awesome. Really great everywhere.”

And on top of his new found joy of finding his home, he apparently has a special connection with the coaching staff, too, adding that “the coaches were really cool, and I really liked talking with them.”

The 6-5, 290-pound lineman is already ready to get to work. And with his frame and attitude, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get some early playing time in Stillwater.

“I believe I’m a kid that’s going to come in and work as hard as I can and try to become the best player I can possibly be. I believe I’m aggressive and physical and want to work to maximize my potential.”

That he most definitely is. On top of his excellent attitude, he is a punishing lineman who has excellent leverage and is very mobile. He’s relentless in his effort (as you can see from his numerous pancake blocks), and he seems to take pride in straight up embarassing defenders. Which I’m sure is exactly what Coach Adkins wants to bring in.
