Five-star Point Guard Javonte Smart Names Oklahoma State in Top 6

Five-star point guard Javonte Smart, the No. 11 overall player in the 2018 class, has cut his list to six schools. In no order, those schools are Kentucky, Florida State, LSU, Kansas, Oklahoma State and UCLA.

Oklahoma State is battling some of college basketball’s biggest bluebloods for the services of Smart, but the Baton Rouge area standout says the Cowboys’ efforts in recruiting him has made him comfortable with naming him in his top group.

“They’ve been with me all the way,” Smart told Scout of OSU. “They’ve just been on me hard and I’ve talked to the coaches and I’ve built a good relationship with all the coaches.”

Smart is ranked as the No. 3 point guard prospect in the 2018 class. He averaged 25.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game on varsity this season, according to MaxPreps. He plays for Scotlandville Magnet High School and was a member of the U-16 and U-17 USA Basketball teams.

Thus far, it seems Kentucky and LSU are both leading in his recruitment, and both are the only schools to earn visits from him. However with his search narrowed to six, he’ll have more time to focus on his newly-narrowed list.

“I felt like it was time to and those are the schools that are hitting me the hardest,” Smart said. “This gives me time to look at these schools.”
