Amauri Hardy De-Commits From Oklahoma State, Opens Up Recruiting

Mike Boynton is 1 for 2 (that we know of so far) in retaining previously-committed 2017 recruits. Zach Dawson confirmed to us earlier this week that he will still be coming to Stillwater. Amauri Hardy, on the other hand, confirmed on Thursday that he is now up in the air.

Hardy is a four-star PG from Farmington Hills, Michigan who had offers from Georgia and Georgia Tech. His high school coach called him, “The best I’ve ever coached.” Hardy averaged a 29-7-6-6 line in his senior year.

Here is what ESPN’s scouting report said about him.

Hardy is a playmaking lefty combo-guard capable of playing both on and off the ball. He has a definite scorer’s mentality and a lot of confidence with the ball in his hands. He can penetrate a defense both turning the corner on a ball-screen as well as in isolations, where he can break his defender down off the dribble.

He has a full arsenal of maneuvers on his way to the rim complete with spins, floaters and crafty lay-ups around the rim. He’s also a solid passer off the dribble who has the ability to create easy baskets for his teammates when drawing a secondary defender. He has good size for the position and is very competitive, an attribute that should serve him especially well on the defensive end of the floor at the next level.

It’s entirely possible that Hardy, a Michigan native who grew up in Big 10 territory, would have interest in following Brad Underwood to Illinois and playing much closer to home. Additionally, Jawun Evans has reportedly still not yet signed with an agent, leaving the door cracked open for the 1st Team All Big-12 point guard to return to Stillwater for his junior season.

As of right now, the Cowboys’ projected 2017-2018 backcourt is still fairly crowded, with Zack Dawson joining the likes of Brandon Averette, Lindy Waters III, Thomas Dziagwa, swingmen Jeffrey Carroll and Davon Dillard, and potentially even Tavarius Shine, coming off injury.

Hardy never technically signed which means he did not need to ask the NCAA for a release from his letter of intent. Hardy noted that he still might come to OSU, but it seems unlikely now that that would be the case.
