Anonymous Big 12 Coach Says Mason Rudolph ‘Doesn’t Scare You’ and Is Not Dynamic

I love the summer. Just a relaxing time of hanging with the kids, covering golf and going on vacation before the college footba …. whaaaat’s that, a Big 12 coach went shots fired at Mason Rudolph in the middle of June? Anonymously?!

ESPN recently conducted an anonymous questionnaire for Big 12 coaches led, ironically, by the question “could you talk about … ”

The entire thing is here on ESPN Insider, but the part I would like to focus on is what one Big 12 offensive coach said about QB1 in Stillwater.

“He’s a good player, but he doesn’t scare you. I don’t think he’s dynamic like, say, the kid at Texas Tech [Patrick Mahomes]. He’s a pocket passer and he doesn’t have a cannon. He’s not Brandon Weeden, even if they want him to be.”

?????

I’d say he was pretty dynamic last season when he posted the best non-Brandon Weeden season of all time with a running game equivalent to my three-year-old daughter blocking me and my wife while we try to scoop our two-year-old son up and put him in his crib during bedtime!

Is this not dynamic enough for you?

What do you want from him?! Just dimes all over the yard with literally no threat of a running game. I do wonder which offensive coach said this. Probably not anyone from KSU, TCU or Baylor!

I’m fired up if you can’t tell.

Another offensive coach (presumably from a different school) said something a little more complimentary.

“You know [Rudolph] is a competitor because he makes big plays when they need them. They won so many close games. You have to give him credit, because he didn’t have a consistent running game. The key for him this year is they have to develop a running game. He needs help.”

I do like the sentiment here. The “nobody believes in us” narrative will be strong come August, and there’s nothing I enjoy more than a franchise QB with a massive chip on his shoulder.
