Ben Grogan Set to Become All-Time Leading Scorer at Oklahoma State

Senior place kicker Ben Grogan is poised to pass Dan Bailey as the Cowboy’s all-time leading scorer this weekend in Lawrence, Kansas. Currently sitting at 369 total points, he is one shy of Dan Bailey, the most ack’rut kicker in NFL history, as his former head coach would put it.

Here’s a quick look at the top five scorers:

  1. Dan Bailey – 370
  2. Ben Grogan – 369
  3. Barry Sanders – 360
  4. Cary Blanchard – 331
  5. Thurman Thomas – 302

Let’s see how Grogan stacks up to the eventual No 2.

He’s made 57 career field goals, tied with Bailey and 198 extra points, one shy of Bailey. Grogan should finish Saturday’s game as the Cowboys’ all-time leader in all three categories.

They both will have played four years at Oklahoma State. Bailey played 45 games for OSU, playing seven as a freshman and then missing one his junior season. Grogan has not missed a game as an eligible kicker and currently sits at 45, as well.

Grogan’s holds a 75 percent career field goal percentage and a 97.5 percent on extra point attempts. Bailey finished with a 79.2 percent on field goals and 99 percent on extra points.

So while many Oklahoma State fans probably won’t put him ahead of Bailey in their all-time kicker list, maybe they should. They basically did the same thing in the same number of games so far and Grogan still has six more to cement his place in OSU history.

Besides, Grogan has a knack for game-winners including last year’s Kansas State game and two clutch field goals to beat Texas. And who could forget a certain all-time kick to seal Bedlam in Norman?
