BlogPoll – Week 6

I thought this was supposed to be getting easier!

If you don’t think LSU and Bama are the two best teams in the country then I’m not sure what to tell you. I was talking to my buddy, Sheets, yesterday about their matchup and he said, “the final when they play is going to be like 3-0 on a 48-yard field goal.” Can we just call that the title game and be done with it?

Wisconsin was outstanding in their “I guess we have to call it a ‘test’ because Nebraska was a top ten team but it was more like a pop quiz or group homework assignment” outing against Nebraska. Camp Randall was everything you want from a home crowd in early October ready to assert itself onto the national stage. The Brewers took the first two from Arizona, Green Bay rolled, it is a very good time to be a beer distributor in the state of Wisconsin right now.

I feel kind of bad for OU actually (no I don’t) considering they’ve more than taken care of business thus far and I’ve had to drop them the last two weeks because of what other teams did. Same for Boise and Oklahoma State.

Speaking of my Cowboys, we’re all aware that if Texas beats OU on Saturday (they won’t) that OSU will be facing its second matchup between top ten teams in the state of Texas within four weeks. Either way I just hope Venables hits Case in the mouth over and over again so they’re good and bloodied up when we roll into Austin.

Auburn – welcome back to the party with a resounding W in Columbia.

Michigan State – ditto, even though you’re going to have to pick it up offensively.

Big 12 – congrats on being the only conference with four undefeated teams (you actually have five). I don’t expect that to last much past this weekend (one of OU/Texas falls, Tech could lose at home to A&M, and K-State could do the same to Mizzou).

  1. IMO – OKLA. STATE would beat Boise, even in Idaho on the blue turf…

  2. I think that’s a good list. I do think Nebraska has been a little bit overrated, but Wisconsin still looked good.

  3. texas tech is in your top 25??? i almost fainted just now. they are awful.

  4. If OU wants to be ranked ahead of LSU, Bama and Wiscy, then they need to beat teams like Missouri by more than 10 at home. Elite teams are winning more convincingly against better opponents than Mizzou. OU belongs at 4 right now.

LSU: Beat Oregon by 13 (neutral) and West Virginia by 26 (in Morngatown)
Bama: Beat Arkansas by 24 and Florida by 28 (in the Swamp)
    Wiscy: Beat Nebraska by 28

I know it sounds extreme but if they want to be at the top of the polls right now, OU needs to beat Texas by 20+.

  5. How did you drop Baylor out and put Tech in?

  6. OkState is in a fine position.
Horns ranked above the Hogs doesn’t make sense.
KState beating Baylor and is only ranked at 25 doesn’t make any sense.

Kyle – Ash is the man to beat. McCoy will be relegated to mop-up duty before end of season as Ash is better in every phase of the offense. All he needed was to pick up the game speed.

  7. Kyle, how is a 2-2 A&M in the top 25 again? I guess blowing double-digit halftime leads back-to-back weekends is the mark of a top 25 team ?

    • Good point…I’ll consider revising before I turn in on Wednesday.

    • A&M has lost 2 games to very good teams (both in current AP Top 10) by a combined 5 points. Does that mean they don’t deserve a Top 25 ranking? Don’t penalize too much for a tough schedule. Somewhere in the 20-25 range is accurate.

  8. Why do you think your audience would agree that the LSU/Bama game is the “title game”? I’m pretty sure your audience would argue that OSU is quite capable of beating either team.

It’s no wonder the Oklahoman didn’t even give you an interview!

    • Constructive criticism only and that’s toeing the line, I consider myself part of that audience as well and I agree that Bama and LSU are a few steps ahead of us (ie. they’ve proven they can play a top 10 team for a full 4 quarters). The only one I don’t agree with is Virginia Tech but I’m a VT hater…
