Boone Pickens Praises Les Miles (?), Talks About Woeful Bedlam Record and More with Lou Holtz
Oklahoma State megabooster Boone Pickens and Lou Holtz spent an afternoon on Wednesday together to kick off the college football season in style – by recording a podcast and YouTube video with football predictions and gridiron talk.
In the discussion, Pickens posed a simple question: Who will win the national championship this season?
“I hate to say this,” Holtz responded, “but I think LSU is going to win it all. If their quarterback comes through they’re very, very talented, Fournette at tailback. If they get on a roll, they have the talent to win it all.”
And Pickens, who has openly ripped Miles after leaving for LSU, made some fascinating comments on the Tigers head coach. Here’s Holtz and Pickens interaction on the video:
Pickens: “You know, Les Miles and I have a history.”
Holtz: “Why did you let him go to LSU?”
Pickens: “They paid him more money.”
Holtz: “Ha ha, no one goes for money.”
Pickens: “I have to take my hat off to ‘ol Les. He beat Oklahoma and we haven’t had anyone who could beat Oklahoma. Every once in awhile is kind of the way it goes. When I signed on there for the stadium, I said we are now going to be competitive. And we have been every place but one place — we’ve struggled with the Oklahoma Sooners.”
