Brad Underwood’s Defenses Will Be ’95 Percent Man-To-Man’

This is terrific. Brad Underwood talks about his defensive philosophy as well as what he tries to do on offense.

“95 percent … maybe a little more … man-to-man defense,” said Underwood. “We’re going to try and take other teams out of what they want to run. There’s not a possession I don’t want the other team to have to stress a little bit.”

That’s not just lip service either. SFA led the country by turning over opponents on 25 percent of possessions (No. 1 in the country). Oklahoma State, by contrast, did it 19 percent of the time (No. 244 in the country).

Then he got into the offense a little bit and even noted that he took the O from Iowa State legend Johnny Orr which is something Doug Gottlieb noted last week on Twitter.

I watched Oregon play and they didn’t seem to use the high post man as much as SFA did. You can take a closer look at the SFA offense here. All that to say, I could not be more excited that Underwood seems to be bringing a real plan to Stillwater for his players … something it never really felt like Travis Ford accomplished.
