Oklahoma State earned it’s second verbal commitment of the 2016 class yesterday as three-star running back LaDarren Brown announced he was committed to OSU on Twitter.

Brown, who missed most of last season due to a dislocated elbow, has burst on the radar this summer with some very impressive camp workouts. He is a 5-foot-8, 170 pound all-purpose back with breakaway speed as displayed during his camp visit recently.

Brown picked up an offer from OSU after a strong performance in June, in which he reportedly clocked a 4.4 40-yard dash. After his visit, he told gopokes.com that he liked it all, from the camp drills to the top-of-the line facilities. But that wasn’t his only influence that may have swayed his decision yesterday. DeSoto alumni and Oklahoma State wide receiver Chris Lacy is also a friend who played a factor in his decision and he said he liked all the players and coaches he met during his time in Stillwater.

“I’ve told everybody and I’m excited to be part of the Oklahoma State Cowboys,” Brown told GoPokes.com. “I was just thinking about it and they (Oklahoma State) got through to me. I want that to be my future the next four or five years playing for them in the Big 12 at that level.”

Brown is a very intriguing prospect in that he only recorded 1 rush for 3 yards last season due to injuries suffered in the preseason and again at the beginning of the season. He has all the keys to become an excellent back at the next level, but his senior season will be interesting to monitor to track his ability to stay healthy, which will be important once he steps foot in Stillwater. With his lightning quick track speed and football upbringing, he projects to be a swiss army knife in the offense for Gundy and Co. and should be able to compete early should he stay healthy.

Brown is the second running back commitment in the 2016 class, joining Booker T. Washington (Tulsa, Okla.) product Justice Hill. Check out his highlight video below. Not only can he BURST out of the backfield, but he has the ability to make plays downfield. Scroll to :46 on the highlight, and you’ll see why his track speed should translate well for the Pokes. Nobody is catching him.
