‘Crootin Update: Deric Robertson

As you’ve probably read by now, OSU picked up a safety commitment from Deric Robertson of Killeen HS over the weekend. The only recruiting service he’s ranked on is 247 (see below) but from the looks of his video, he’s got pretty solid speed (I’m dubious of the 4.34 ESPN has listed) and is a strong tackler.

He’s 6’2 (Markelle Martin is 6’1) and actually reminds me a lot of Daytawion Lowe, even though Lowe is three inches shorter. Solid pickup for OSU, even though they’re lagging a little on the 2013 recruiting pace (only Iowa St. and Kansas have fewer verbals).

247 – 3-stars (#25 safety, #63 in Texas)
ESPN – NR

Watch the 1:08 mark for his (alleged) 4.34 speed.

  1. One thing that is apparent to me is that Van Malone (safeties coach) had better teach him how to lower his pad level to better drive on the ball carrier. There were a few tackles that were too high and allowed the running back an extra yard or three after Robertson made contact. But I expect that to be cleaned up during summer two-a-days.

  2. It’s really hard to tell how fast he is, since he didn’t return any kicks/punts in the video.

  3. Great closing speed.
