Sorry for the lack of news, folks. Just not a lot going on this time of year.

Really interesting article on why people don’t go to Browns games. (Plain Dealer)
Luke Del Rio on ESPN. Odds this kid knows more about football then Gundy? (ESPN)
Charles Howell is the only OSU guy playing Greenbriar and he’s even after one round. (PGA Tour)
Ubbs has us torching KU. (ESPN)

7th??? I am looking forward to that Texas game more than any other.
Oh yeah baby! I can’t wait for the Horns to roll into Stillwater with everyone telling them for the last 3 months that their going to walk all over the Cowboys…
Two idiot statements made by this blogger:
1. Luke Del Rio on ESPN. Odds this kid knows more about football then Gundy? I don’t even have to explain why this is ridiculous.
2. I hope OSU fans never have these expectations. We did last year. Why shouldn’t we?
OSU fans hoped for a national championship, but it wasn’t the standard for a successful season – I feel there is a difference. I think Big 12 championship and probably beating OU were the standards for a successful season. There are many OU fans who say their season is basically lost once they lose A game.
Correct, I want 10-2 seasons to still be special. Heck, I want 9-3 seasons to still be special because they are. OU fans think they should fire Stoops if they go anything besides 13-0.
I’m pretty sure Kyle was typing in sarcasm font when he insinuated that Del Rio had more football knowledge than Gundy. Kyle uses sarcasm pretty often in his Bullet descriptions.
Sarcasm: it’s not for everybody
I actually wasn’t being sarcastic. I don’t think Gundy has a ton of football knowledge, he’s hired good people but I think he’s generally a pretty big goofball.
If you think he hung the moon then this blog probably isn’t for you.
Having said that, I think he’s one of the best leaders/CEOs in the country, which is all I want out of my head coach.
Oh. My. Gosh… Just when I thought you were through making dumb comments…
Kyle, this may be your biggest blunder yet. If you even think there is the slightest chance that a HS QB has more football knowledge than Gundy… I mean, I don’t even know what to say… That’s just flat out awful.
Gundy is no Saban or Meyer, but right now he’s a top 10-15 coach in the country. He knows football whether you want to admit it or not.
There are some great coaches out there than couldnt do the job Gundy has done here.
Haha “just when I thought you were done making dumb comments.”
I love Gundy, I think he’s great, and I don’t think some 17-year old knows more about football than him. I was kidding, but only about halfway.
My point is that I think he’s done one of the best jobs in the country DESPITE not being a football genius (i.e.: Urban, Sumlin, RichRod).
You know why? Because he’s a great leader and apparently has the best HR department around (Dana, Monken, et al).
How on earth can you genuinely know that he isn’t a ‘football genius’? What has led you to believe this? How is Richrod, Meyer, et al. a football genius, but Gundy isn’t? Please, by all means, break it down for us.
OSU record when Gundy calls plays: 36-27
OSU record when Gundy doesn’t call plays: 23-3
a) inaccurate info
b) Hal Mumme is considered a football genius. Look up his record.
My bad, I forgot about Fedora, that’s an egregious mistake on my part.
I just assumed you were using his years under Miles, but I guess not. Not sure it’d be a fair comparison anyway.
Co-sign, Nate. Gundy has been spending 40+ hours/week in a film room for more years than Luke del Rio has been alive. I’m sure he has a football IQ far beyond his years, and I know Kyle wasn’t completely serious, but it’s not close.
Are you sure that is right, Kyle? I thought Gundy only called plays 2 years. We had Fedora before and then Holgorsen and Monken after that.
Nope, I blew that one…my bad.
^ Not True. Gundy called plays for 2 seasons and they went what 18 and 8? Not too bad considering one year was No Dez an injured Zac and a broken Kendal. Slanting your argument isn’t ok twitter friend.
I agree that he has made great hires, but in order to recognize quality football coaches you have to be a pretty damn good one yourself. He’s a pretty intelligent and more importantly for the success of Oklahoma State, inovative guy.
Yep, I blew that one. My fault, and we can totally disagree and still be TFs.
The offense definitely was not the problem when Gundy/Fedeora (I always preferred “Gundora”) was calling plays…
Count me in the group that would prefer not having a football savant as a HC. There are way too many obligations and responsibilities with being a HC that a pure “football brain” can’t handle. Dealing with media, recruiting, hiring decisions, discipline decisions, etc are too much for the Leachs of thew world (and I think Dana is a ticking time-bomb in Morgantown).
Of course there are exceptions to the above (Urban Meyer is a once in a lifetime coach) but I’m in the well-rounded is better camp (Mack Brown, Pete Carroll, etc)
I think he was getting at the point that this kid has grown up in the meeting rooms of professional football teams. His dad was a head coach and is now defensive coordinator for a professional team. He is surrounded by football everyday. I do think Gundy has football knowledge but he is a great leader/motivator more than anything. He’s a great guy but he’s not Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, or even Les Miles.
Thank you, John. Hope you enjoy London.
Are you being facetious?
Gundy is one of the worst play callers in history of D-1 football. If you have been a fan of OSU fb for any length of time, and you have any knowledge of the game, you understand this. This is one area where data is not needed to understand this statement. But he is one of the best CEO’s in the game….that’s all we need.
THis is internet insanity equal to the GUNDY IS THE GREATEST EVER crowd. We scored 40 points a game the year he decided to give up play calling.
Wasn’t Gundy recognized by the Football writers as the national Coach of the Year last year? How is his “football intellect” (whatever that even means) a matter of question?
Listen, people: the point I was making is that the kid has literally grown up in an NFL film room. Gundy looks like he struggles to figure out how high to gel his hair sometimes. He’s goofy, he’s fun, I take shots at him because he’s always got that blank “I may or may not know what quarter we’re in” look on his face during games.
I think the guy is an amazing coach, he’ll go down as one of the five best in OSU history probably. I’ve ALWAYS stood up for him, even when we sucked. I just don’t think he’s some football savant, and I honestly don’t want him to be.
Just keep hiring people that are.
So what if he grew up watching film? Gundy’s been doing this longer than that kids been alive. His mind will be an asset for sure, but we also said “ohh JW Walsh is a coaches kid!” How’s it going for him?
And I feel bad for the kid for LITERALLY growing up in an NFL film room. Did they ever let him leave?
**Should be noted that Gundy was actually the OC from 2001-2004 which included some relatively successful seasons (3 straight bowl games) and 2 monumental bedlam wins.
Has your team won a BCS Bowl recently:
No – offseason controversy thread: “Uniforms”
Yes – offseason controversy thread: “Head coach: football genius or master CEO”
Drink!
You’re right this blog isn’t for me. The author has no credibility after the comments above.
Gundy had won bk to bk coach of the year honors.
2010 – Big 12 COY
2011 – National COY
I guess Gundy is getting lucky and making great hires. He doesn’t know X’s & O’s Shhesh. SMH
Let me also remind u he won the starting QB position as a true freshman . He knows football.
I disagree with Kyle probably more than anybody and I still think this blog is for me…
Guys…he played Alex Cate over Brandon Weeden and let him go 0-fer in the first half on completions. I think it’s reasonable to question him a little bit.
That said, I’m very glad he is leading the team.
2013 season opener: Alabama vs. Oklahoma State, Texas Stadium. You heard it here first.
Honestly? We’ve got a head football coach that FREAKIN’ BLEEDS ORANGE!!! You guys should be ashamed. Remember over two years ago when he told the reporter asking if he was unhappy with one of the lowest wages in B12 (and I’m paraphrasing): “…Are you kidding? I’m makin’ 2 mil a year living in Stillwater Oklahoma as the head football coach for the school I played at and graduated from!”….and BTW, he’s not doin’ too bad of a job as the head coach if you judge by things as silly as won-loss records or recruiting. I’d like to see him get a chance to go up against Nick Saban and Urben Meyers in a game….Then we can talk about knowledge of the game.
