None Better

Media is raving about the wide receiver depth in Stillwater but there’s one particular thing that’s even more exciting.

In the past, defenses have been able to limit Washington’s damage with double-teams and bracket coverage. This season, that won’t be so easy.

“If they want to try and double-team James, we’ll have somebody else open,” fellow wideout Chris Lacy said. “With as many weapons as we have, defenses are not going to be able to focus on just one person. We have a lot of different players that can make plays.” [ESPN]

So you play a safety over the top on Washington. Is your best answer to have a linebacker cover McCleskey? Throw another DB out there and there’s Justice for all to see through the middle of your defense. There’s so many tantalizing hypotheticals with this gluttonous array of weapons.

This depth chart is any offensive coordinator’s dream and there’s no question it played a part in bringing Rudolph back for his senior year and Yurcich (reportedly) telling Auburn to take a hike.

Yo Adrian

One of the newest Cowboys had an interesting reason for coming to Stillwater.

In a Wednesday phone interview with team sideline reporter Robert Allen on Triple Play Radio, (Adrian) Baker compared the Cowboys’ rise to that of his former team.

“I approach this situation the same way,” Baker said. “I look at Oklahoma State as like that team.”

In Baker’s first two years at Clemson, the program won double-digit games each season. But it fell short of ACC supremacy with losses to Florida State. The tide shifted in 2015, though, as Clemson rolled past the Seminoles on its path to the national title game.

“In 2015, I had a big part on the defense, I played in the national championship,” Baker said. “I feel like I know what it takes. … If Oklahoma State can get over that hump and beat Oklahoma, I think that the sky is the limit. I think that the coaching staff and the guys that are there have done a good job of positioning the program to do that. [NewsOK]

The winning culture at Oklahoma State (among other things) has driven the Pokes to pull out games against the middle tier of the league (K-State 2016 for example). But each year there’s been an immovable crimson mobile home schooner between OSU and the top.

Around these parts, we feel recruiting has been the primary hurdle between the Pokes and college football’s top tier. Baker was a part of a team that saw OU and OU-sized dragons slain, maybe he can fill us in on the secret ingredient to get to the top.

OSU and NCAA Notes

Pokes head up to Lawrence for some baseball tonight….CBS ranks college football coaches into tiers (Gundy ahead of BILL SNYDER)….Tram lays out where ORU has gone off track….North Carolina is threatening to pull UNC/NC State over bathroom bill stuff….Should Gundy have laid down on the field after CMU?…. No. 2 is an all-timer at QB but one of the best humans to come through as well

My excitement level has decreased significantly (No Undie, No Jawun) but the continued development of Dillard is worth the drive.

🙂   Now if we can get some head-to-head on field backing…

You can play some offense with that line.
