Wrapping Up Iowa State

Here are my 10 Thoughts on the game. [PFB]

This from Rudolph is pretty interesting: ““Offensively, we’ve got to be a lot better in the first half, and a lot of it falls on my shoulders. But we kept fighting. The guys didn’t get down and we knew how quick we could score. At halftime, our offensive coaches did a great job of adjusting the game plan and putting in a bunch of plays we hadn’t run in practice. And we executed ’em.” [NewsOK]

Gundy, Rudolph and Co. took photos with kids from Coaches vs. Cancer group after the game. It was awesome. [PFB]

Gundy said he would make the fourth down call to start the second half again but admitted that it was an emotional decision. [NewsOK]

National hero Zach Sinor: “I just do my thing and kick the ball and hope it goes far.” [O’Colly]

Mike Gundy is all of us: “We have the ability to score really fast and we have playmakers that can pick up big chunks of yards. I didn’t feel (we wouldn’t be able to come back), but I didn’t feel very good either.” [Tulsa World]

Glenn Spencer: “Resiliant teams find a way to win games. Guys were playing their ass off.” [O’Colly]

This is stunning.

Mike Yurcich on James Washington: “People feed off of him. The quarterback has a lot of confidence in him, so it’s going to help him. When (Washington) is in the game, I would think defenses are going to be aware of him and maybe play a safety over the top … so it’s going to help your run game.” [NewsOK]

We did another postgame show on Saturday evening. It was a lot of fun. [PFB]

What a world.

Sorry, OSU fans, you’re faltering this season. The announced attendance of 53,239 was nice, but after halftime, that number was cut by at least a third. Thousands of fans left and didn’t come back. It’s a trend — and it really doesn’t make any sense. Saturday was a beautiful day, so no need to head home to get out of the elements. What’s more, the Cowboys were in a barn-burner of a game, but still, fans bolted. Kudos to those who stayed, but this trend of the halftime exodus just isn’t a good look. [NewsOK]

My notebook on the game. [PFB]

Awesome.

This is true.

Injury report

I still think this is a little bit concerning: OSU coach Mike Gundy said Washington went through some noncontact drills Tuesday and Wednesday, but the staff didn’t feel good about it. But Thursday, Washington was back to normal. [O’Colly]

Gundy: “This was a tough week for us. We had several guys that didn’t play and we had several guys that played that didn’t practice this week. I’ve never been a big fan of guys playing in games that didn’t get much work during the week, but we really didn’t have much choice from a depth standpoint.” [Go Pokes]

Starting RG Larry Williams is out for six weeks. [Tulsa World]

Around the Country

I just read The Perfect Pass (seriously read it) so Mike Leach housing Stanford makes sense to me. Not sure it would otherwise. [Yahoo]

Michigan beat Rutgers 78-0. omg, look at this box score. [Yahoo]

This was hilarious.

Jawun Evans: “He’s a great coach. He pushes you every day. Don’t take no days off. Just helping you learn the game better. I love it.” [O’Colly]

More stuff I’m reading

Kirk Herbstreit on how he got his job: “I put a fake tape together. I didn’t have any TV experience. I sent it to ESPN, they brought me in for an audition and ended up hiring me. Here I am 21 years later, still faking my way through it.” [NewsOK]
