Doug Gottlieb Writes Letter of Thanks to Those Who Supported Him

Doug Gottlieb did not get the Oklahoma State men’s basketball head coaching job, and now he never will. But, like last year, he wrote a letter of thanks to those who supported him.

My Alma mater needs leadership, needs passion, needs loyalty, needs to have a piece of the old and a chunk of what is new on the sidelines of Eddie Sutton Court. I felt like it needed me, my plan, my vision, my soul. This time it felt real.

I learned that I have allies, friends and fans that will try to move heaven and earth to help me. I’ve learned that I have bosses that understand me, a wife and family that loves me and an army of surrogates ready for action.

To the thousands of you who emailed Oklahoma State in support of me, thank you. To the hundreds of friends who sent messages via FaceBook or text to me and Angie Gottlieb thank you.

To the coaches who were completely IN on joining me in Stillwater, Gregg Gottlieb, Miles Simon, Todd Licklighter and Nick Graham as well as others who wish to remain unnamed… thank you.

Gottlieb also noted a variety of coaches who either reached out to him or to Oklahoma State on his behalf including Steve Kerr, Brad Stevens and Scott Brooks. I know two of those actually called Mike Holder to pitch Gottlieb.

Then he ended like this.

Twenty years ago I rolled into town in and I didn’t know a soul. I got more than a degree and assist records, I gained a family. I’ve done my very best to make everyone associated with my school proud, always hopeful to be asked to come back home. But alas my vision isn’t currently shared and what we may think is a no brainer, makes others hesitant. I carry no grudge, live with no regrets.

On to the next one.
