I know Ive been against this fella from the start, but I still am… But I love his passion and desire, I hate his arrogance. but if its okay to change my tone. i say lets get this deal done with him and get it going.

    • Tyler

I think hiring him does more good than harm. Ford killed our fan base and Underwood made it so much better in less than year.

Give Doug a shot. There will always be mid major coaches to choose from.

      • Saucy Takes

If had any money at all now is a time to make a big splash. She’ll out big big dollars for a Greg Marshall or Cincys, Xavier, Creigtons coach.

        • Tyler

I just don’t believe its possible to come up with enough money to get one of those guys to Stillwater.

What’s the absolute top dollar Holder will dish out? 3.5??

And would one of those guys actually stay?

          • Saucy Takes

If you pay 3.5M you have established yourself as a top program outside of the kentuckys UCLAs UNC and Kansas’s

          • Tyler

I don’t think you get my point. I don’t think Holder wants to pay his basketball coach that much.

I think it’s gonna takes a number like that to lure a great coach from a decent program to Stillwater

          • swaggypaw

            So….Second Tier State?

          • Saucy Takes

No he won’t that was more to answer your second question if they would stay

          • David Einstein

WSU already pays Marshall that though. They’d match any number.

          • Tyler

Marshall is on the Bill Self level of pipe dream lol

          • Saucy Takes

But what are they paying the guy at Cincy Xavier and Creighton

          • Tyler

Cincy (Mick Cronin) has 4 years left on his deal at 2.2 mil a year.

We would have to give him a raise and buyout his contract.

          • Red_Line_9

Marshall makes 3.3 at WSU and has already turned down UCLA in the recent past. He’s a moon shot.

        • Jawbreaker

          Creighton > Greg McDermott
He was at Iowa State and it was very mediocre. I don’t see a guy who already got fired in the Big 12 getting big money from OSU

    • CaptainObvious

I love his arrogance. Either he is going to back it up, or it is going to be spectacular to see how failure breaks his mind.

      • David Einstein

Yep. He’s blunt and honest…kind of like, well…all of us.

    • David Einstein

      Saucy, my guy!

    • Tyler

Would you rather have someone who doesn’t believe himself? He’s definetely full of himself but so is Gundy lol

      • Saucy Takes

Gundy doesn’t say stuff like I walk in the gym and everyone knows who I am

        • Tyler

Saucy.. He had a big daddy coffee mug at a press conference… C’mon man lol

          • Saucy Takes

He does that for humor he has a personality lol

          • Tyler

I think he believes it though! But really, almost every coach/AD/big donor has an ego. I can deal with Doug’s if he wins

          • CaptainObvious

It is a problem I would love to have.

          • Tulsa Food Guy

            Big Dougie mug?

          • Tyler

Teach Me how to Dougie. Then Gundy comes in with Teach me how to Gundy remix and the internet explodes.

            -sorry i can’t help myself

  • PythonPoke

I think basketball is a sport that allows you to take a risk in a hire like this. In football, you have a couple of bad years with poor recruiting, etc and your program is down for at least 5 years. In basketball, you could try it for two years and if it fails for whatever reason you bring in a big name coach, grab a couple of top recruits and suddenly you’re back in business.

    • Tyler

I agree we just saw how much progress Underwood made in less than year. Give Doug 3 years and see what happens.

      • Saucy Takes

I don’t give him 3 I give him 2 for improvements and move on

      • Saucy Takes

Doesnt sound like Holder is going to according to podcast Doug hasnt spoke to holder as of 2:30 today. It doesn’t look great.

        • Matt Cox

Why does Holder need to talk to him? All he has to do is hang out here at pistols firing and learn all he needs to know! 🙂 Wouldn’t hurt Doug to go about this in a more professional manner, rather than use this outlet as his mouthpiece.

          • Saucy Takes

I couldn’t agree more with you, but it’s entertaining

          • Tyler

IF Doug gets hired I think it helps the fan base get excited but otherwise it hurts.

        • Tyler

If this is as big as shock to Holder as he says it is it probably takes longer than last year, right?

I would rather Doug not be plan A anyway. He’s not going anywhere. You have to worry about recruits but I look at other coaches first.

  • swaggypaw

Terry Evans. Won at every level (HS, D2 NCAA).

    • Saucy Takes

I have more interest in cowboy badketball now than I did a year ago and I loved Undie

    • PythonPoke

The most recent and capable OU grad you could come up with?

      • swaggypaw

Holy !@#$. That’s your concern at this point?

    • Tyler

Umm give me a mid major coach over a D2 coach.

      • swaggypaw

well right now the consideration is a Twitter coach….so you tell me.

  • David Einstein

    Dude is awesome. Hire yesterday.

  • Alum in AZ

This is why I want Doug – I think there are 3 key dimensions to NCAA coaching: 1) Jimmy and Joes, 2) X’s and O’s, and 3) Schmoozing and Dough. Doug will knock #1 and #3 out of the park. For example – when have we ever had someone with such a strong connection with national sports media? It’s taken Gundy an unprecedented # of wins, a mullet, and a rattlesnake to get as much attention as Doug could probably get with a couple of phone calls. As for X’s and O’s… he clearly knows the game but doesn’t have high-profile/high-pressure in-game decision experience from the sideline at the NCAA level. But he will have help and I don’t think this are with lack of experience will be a showstopper. You have to get the players and then prepare them. There’s only so much you can do with mid-game adjustments. Yes, they’re important… but there are not a ton of people who max out all 3 of my coaching triangle in the context of Stillwater Oklahoma and our available budget.

  • G-Block

Okay, Doug changed my mind. I’m on board.
