Five Things We Learned in Bedlam 2015

Oklahoma State got smoked in Bedlam this year and OU looked like the best team in the country. It’s hard to walk away thinking anything else. Still, even though we’re 12 games deep, we still learned some stuff about both teams. Here are five things Kyle and I learned during Bedlam 2015.

1. Mason Rudolph’s injury was wildly underplayed (KP)

We knew Mike Gundy was underplaying it after he called it an ankle sprain (LOL, Mike). But even the folks Kyle and I talked to about the broken bone in Rudolph’s foot seemed to have downplayed its severity (given it kept Rudolph from playing almost entirely).

That has me less concerned about the outcome of Bedlam and more concerned about the future. OSU will go as The Franchise goes. I just hope he keeps going.

2. Baker Mayfield is even better in person (KP)

I legitimately never got upset at not tackling him because I legitimately never thought OSU was going to tackle him. Dude is a baller. I respect that. Even though him hoisting a Heisman will be nauseating.

3.Our conditioning is not so good (KB)

For all the hype and buzz the strength and condition program rightfully earns each year, this team was flat out gassed going into Bedlam. It was noticeable on the field. It was a concern headed into the game and I didn’t put much weight into it, but this was the worst shape I’ve seen the team in a long time.

4. Talent wins out, most of the time (KB)

Kyle wrote about this earlier and I have to agree. As a guy who follows recruiting religiously, it can be frustrating that the Cowboys consistently chase second-tier talent because they “fit a system” and can develop into good players through the program. It’s true, Mike Gundy can develop two-star guys into really good players, but talent wins out in most cases. In both the Baylor and OU game, OSU simply had less talent on the field.

5. James Washington is a baaaaaad man (KP)

Washington made J.W. Walsh look like Matthew Stafford on Saturday on a couple of his catches. He took a match to OU’s secondary and every second of it was awesome. Also, this was my favorite tweet of the night.

One thing we didn’t learn and some people may never learn. How in the world OU lost to Texas.
