Football Recruiting Update: Offensive line targets shifting, tight end prospects remain

Published

on

The last home game of the season brought in some big recruits to Stillwater for their final chance to see the Cowboys in action in front of their home crowd. Among the handful of targets on hand included several who hold OSU offers and could be making a decision soon. Here’s a recap from the past week and where OSU stands at key positions.

Offensive line targets

Kelby Wickline, the son of former Oklahoma State offensive line coach Joe Wickline, announced he was committing to North Carolina and Larry Fedora on Monday. Wickline recently picked up an OSU offer and, being from Stillwater, I figured he would at least wait to make his visit planned around Thanksgiving to Stillwater before making his decision. It sounds like this was in the works, and OSU was never really a big player in his recruitment.

OSU likely knew their fate earlier this week with Wickline, and already moved on in the recruitment of another offensive tackle prospect. This one in 2017 offensive lineman Grant Polley, a 6-foot-4, 265-pound prospect from Denton, Texas, who is committed to play for Colorado. Since committing earlier this summer, his recruitment has gone stale. So either OSU feels like they may have a shot, or they are reaching for straws. I think the appeal of playing closer to home may play a factor, but he already held offers from Mizzou, TCU, Texas Tech and others. The Pokes have had recent success recruiting the Denton area, so we’ll continue monitoring Polley to see if any movement takes place in the coming weeks and months.

Tight end targets

Oklahoma State recently lost their sole tight end commitment in Spencer Misko, who parted ways with the Pokes in what may have been a mutual separation. There are still several targets at tight end on their board and they will take one tight end in the 2017 class, one target of which was on campus this weekend in Tyler Henderson.

Henderson is a Navy pledge who made the trip to Stillwater, and I get the feeling Oklahoma State is in good position to potentially nab the 6-4, 225-pound prospect from Kyle, Texas.

The other tight end prospect who made the haul to Stillwater this weekend is 2018 Christian Trahan, from Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Trahan has been on OSU’s radar for several months, and tight ends coach Jason McEndoo has been steady on him after offering a scholarship. Similar to Henderson, OSU seems to be in a good position to land him, although I’ve heard that his decision will likely come during his senior year.
