Geron Eatherly Talks About Commitment to OSU

Recruiting for the 2016 class is all but wrapped up, and most people have their eyes on the positions of need – namely at offensive tackle and wide receiver. But there are other positions that OSU has quietly addressed this cycle, one of which was filled this past week with the commitment of Geron Eatherly.

Eatherly is a 6-1. 215-lb long-snapper prospect from San Antonio, TX, who earned a five-star ranking by the website chrissailerkicking.com.

From the evaluation, here is his player review:

Watching Eatherly snap at the Rubio Long Snapping VEGAS XXVII Event in January, 2016 was pure joy. He is, easily, one of the top ten smoothest Long Snappers I have ever coached. When he misses, literally by less than a few inches anytime he does, it is almost shocking. Moves really well athletically and has the room to put on some more lbs. Extremely consistent Long Snapper that has a great attitude and drive. Excellent all-around person that will make a college coach beyond happy.

I asked Eatherly about the five-star ranking… (I.E.: You’re a five-star player, why did you pick OSU?!?)

“For the record, the five-star rating is by a long snapping coach. It is comparable to a 2-3 star rivals rating depending on size,” he said.

With the graduation of former long snapper Josh Elias, Eatherly chose the Pokes for a chance at early playing time.

“I had a full ride to (FCS school) Portland State, a preferred walk on to SMU, Toledo, and Oklahoma State,” Eatherly said. “I really think Coach Gundy is a fantastic coach and guy and I love the emphasis that he puts on special teams,” he added.

In Eatherly, the Pokes have a very accurate long snapper who will join as a walk-on. If he lives up to the evaluation, he could be an excellent addition. Gundy does put a big emphasis on special teams, and with his frame, he could be a player that could come in and take the starting job right away.
