Hargis Named Big 12 Rep on NCAA Board of Directors
Burns Hargis was named to the NCAA Division 1 Board of Directors on Tuesday. Hargis joins a committee of 23 other presidents, ADs and student athletes to help shape the future of college athletics. So, uh, what exactly is the Board of Directors?
The Board of Directors is the overall governing body for Division I, responsible for strategy, policy, governance, membership and legislative oversight. [Big 12]
You can read the notes from the most recent Board of Directors meeting here. They are incredibly boring, but they also include important discussion such as decisions on transfer rules and practice time allotted for D1 football teams.
In short, it’s a good thing that a progressive, smart mind like Hargis’ is representing not only the Big 12 Conference but also Oklahoma State University on a national level. Hargis takes over for Iowa State’s Steven Leath as the Big 12’s representative at the table. His term will expire in 2021.
Other members of the committee include Eli Capilouto (president of Kentucky), Eric W. Kaler (president of Minnesota) and Philip Distefano (president of Colorado).
