Hoops Recruiting: Travis Ford Targeting Group of top Prospects
According to NCAA recruiting rules, the quiet period for basketball has officially expired and the recruiting period is in full swing as of Sept. 9. Travis Ford is wasting no time reaching out to his top prospects in the 2016 class. Here are a few of the guys he is taking a look at, including some who are making official visits this weekend.
Cam McGriff, Power Forward
McGriff is a Grand Prairie, Texas product who, at 6’7, 205, is a highly touted 2016 prospect. He has offers from OU, Tulsa, Arkansas, Creighton, Miami, and others, according to Rivals. Per playhoops, Travis Ford, Butch Pierre, and Coach Dickey all visited McGriff for an in-home visit. He is also expected to make an official visit to Stillwater sometime this week as well. McGriff is a four-star prospect.
Lindy Waters III, Shooting Guard
Waters is a Norman North product who recently named OSU in his top four college choices and somewhat controversially left out the hometown Sooners in his list. He stands at 6’5, 180 and is being recruited based mainly on what he can bring to the table offensively. Travis Ford and Co. reportedly made a visit to see Waters yesterday. He is scheduled to make an official visit on October 2, the same weekend the football team is set to take on Kansas State. Waters averaged 16.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game for Norman North last season as a sophomore – meaning he is a 2017 prospect.
Trae Young, Shooting Guard
Young has been on OSU’s radar for over a year now, but his recruiting has absolutely blown up since then. Young is a 2017 prospect. Not only are the Cowboys facing a recruiting battle with in-state Oklahoma, they are also up against powerhouses Duke, Kansas, Kentucky and Arizona. My guess is Duke is the favorite, but scholarship positions fill quickly down in Durham. If he holds out past this season, I would bet that he may be looking to stay close to home.
Curtis Jones, Combo Guard
As I mentioned yesterday, Jones is expected to take an official visit this weekend. Jones is a top 100 national recruit who has interest in Indiana, Georgetown, Texas and others. Jones is a 6’3, 170 pound 2016 prospect. The dude can play.
