Introducing Two New Staff Writers To Pistols Firing

Published

on

Welcome to football season. This will be the sixth one for Pistols Firing. It’s hard to believe. The first one will be tough to top. That 2011 campaign was straight magic for four months. I had no idea what I was doing, but I would just hop on here and bang out 5,000 words about Brandon Weeden’s arm and those sweet threads. It was a thrill to hit publish every day. Still is.

We’ve grown a lot since then though. Started making real money (well, my definition of real money for this blog). Today we will hit 4.6 million pageviews for the calendar year. That is more than every full year besides 2015 when we hit 7.1 million.

A lot of that is because I hired Kyle Boone on to cover recruiting and generally be awesome. He’s been awesome. I couldn’t have asked for anyone better as a sidekick. This summer, I decided to bring on two more folks. Thomas Fleming who is a student at OSU and you probably know from his terrific offense/defense breakdowns at Cowboys Ride For Free. And Sam Aldrich who smartly wrote some guest posts breaking down Brad Underwood and the future of OSU basketball this spring.

It’s a thrill for me to be able to bring them in and pay them (albeit not enough) to do what I did when I first started this site — think about and write fun things about OSU sports. You will see their work on here often throughout this fall.

They add to our growing list of people under the PFB banner too. I’ve updated our masthead here to reflect part-time contributors for this fall as well as the work these new guys will put in. It’s a fun time for the site, and there’s a lot more to come in the next few days (if you want to intern for us this fall, don’t forget to sign up here — I’ll leave that open until Wednesday).

I’ll let Sam and Thomas introduce themselves.

Sam Aldrich — Hoops Head

Hey, I’m Sam. I’m an IT analyst by day, I also moonlight as a staff writer here at Pistols Firing. As a recent graduate of Oklahoma State, I love all things orange and black. While I miss Markel Brown 360 dunks, Marcus Smart’s backflips and Justin Blackmon corner fades from my own time in Stillwater, these days I’m all about #Underwood2016. As the Head of Hoops on staff, I cover all things Cowboys basketball and recruiting. I’m ready to bring the rowdy back whenever y’all are.

Thomas Fleming — Xs and Os

I’m Thomas, and I’m a sports media production major at OSU who enjoys writing about Cowboy athletics and strives to educate the average fan about the complexity of the modern game.

You can follow Sam on Twitter here and Thomas here.
