Is Mike Gundy Going to Get a New Contract?
Mike Gundy is paid pretty handsomely to go out and win 8.5 games a year, glad hand with boosters and hire smart people. He might be paid even more handsomely for these activities in 2016.
Before we get to that, let’s look at where Gundy’s annual compensation falls nationally. Here’s the top 23 from earlier this year. Gundy is No. 22. Dabo Swinney is No. 26 (!)
And now Bill Haisten on the rumblings in Stillwater.
An Oklahoma State source indicates that university officials are considering a new contract for head football coach Mike Gundy.
When the 2015 season concluded, four seasons remained on the eight-year contract signed by Gundy before the 2012 season. For established head coaches, the industry standard is a contract of at least five years.
This is such a volatile thing. Should Gundy be paid more than Art Briles? Does he deserve that? Maybe not right now, but he did a few years ago and he might three years from now.
I’m interested to see how this plays out for Gundy. I would be surprised if something didn’t take place but an entirely new contract rather than just an extension of what he already has would be pretty intriguing. If I’m betting, I have to bet on the extension rather than a whole new deal.
